1. ''Chaos is needed for the veils to fall down.''
"I don't understand why we have to pay to live on the planet we were born on. I mean it's such a simple question. But can anyone answer that? Why does anyone have to pay to live on the planet they were born on? Ask yourself that question. And who are we actually paying for the privilege to live here? Who decided this? Who made "them" the boss? Who put "them" in-charge?" ~Alex Collier

Fortunately that name is still around. don't think term limits are the answer though. Obama might be facing the harshest fights from the media but thats because he's been doing everything he was originally against and guantonamo (sp) is still open.

They will have to come for us in the middle of the night.

Or crash every other plane taking off.

It is simply too viral a movement to stop, unless they turn off the internet and use the more "junta-like" tendencies to come for so many of us.

Nine long years since a heroe's plane crash.

Rest in Peace, Mr Paul Wellstone, Mrs Sheila Wellstone, wife
Marcia Wellstone, daughter
Will McLaughlin, campaign staff member
Tom Lapic, campaign staff member
Mary McEvoy, campaign staff member
Richard Conry, captain
Michael Guess, co-pilot

RIP.

8. Oust Supreme court Judge Clarence Thomas!! and Citizens United along with him....
There could be some good news on the Citizen's United Supreme court decision and this perhaps in turn could put traction to the effort to get money out politics. Supreme court Judge Thomas is currently under the “white lights” for his failure to disclose income on a screening form representing a conflict of interest issue regarding his wife's income on an application form. This could amount to a “retroactive recusal” of the case and perhaps nullify that particular decision. See earlier DU video below, and support Congresswomen Slaughter at the same time.

Write congresswomen Louise Slaughter (D) NY and support her in this effort Here (she is really watching our backs):

Edited on Tue Oct-18-11 04:11 PM by truedelphi
And there is simply no way to tell ahead of time which party the "For the People" decision will come from.

In the matters of both eminent domain and medical marijuana, the Republican Supreme Court Members stood behind the average person, while the Democratic Supreme Court Members went full court ahead for the corporations and their rule over the land.

Sonia Sotomayor was chosen to a great degree on account of Obama's working so hard for Monsanto and other GM firms, and his awareness that she will rule in full favor of those companies when the activists try to get the GM famine foods prohibited.

72. And the "two Parties" exist only as a fictional, kabuki theater type
Device that keeps them on their toes, while impressing only 27% of the people.

Huge Bailouts that recently gave some 14 trillions of US dollars to banks that repaid these loans with their investment papers. But all that has been topped by the recent decision to backstop Bank of America with another 75 trillions of dolalrs of loans.

Under the "two Parties" we have seen unfair tax rates -- regressive rather than progressive. Unfair legislation that keeps individuals chained to their employers - but that legislation is called "The Affordable Health Act."

Endless wars, regardless of which parties have the majority in Congress.

No real penalties to the monster BP - who not only destroyed the Gulf of Mexico and ruined the ability of Americans to eat the 18% of the seafood that came to our tables from that region, but the Democratic President and Congress let BP spray Corexit all over everything, to the detriment of people's health.

And soon to come, a healthy "loan" to the nuclear power industry - because their recent safety record must be really impressive to our President.

10. I love the rant ... but
OWS hasn't made any demands and even if they did, who would they make them to? A broken system that won't listen to it's constituents and even if they did, is incapable of passing anything meaningful.

To get around the bullshit supreme court, you need a Constitutional amendment. An amendment takes a super majority in each house of congress and that needs to be ratified by 3/4's of the states. Unlikely since the majority of congress critters are the hand maidens of big money.

I agree that getting the money out of politics would be a very good start at turning this Orwellian nightmare around but I give the above scenario a one in a million chance under our current political situation.

My solution: someone invent a time machine because we need major changes made yesterday.

the box, the people around the world who have taken to the streets, have new ideas. We CAN change things, now that the world's people are awake and they are united. This should have happened long ago, but it's happening now and that is what matters.

22. Hi sabrina, inventing a time machine is not thinking inside the box
My thoughts, energy and occasionally my presence are with Occupy. Your right, this should have happened a long time ago and thats exactly why I think the movement will grow. We have left a completely broken system for our young people and they know it. There are some democratic groups trying co-opt the movement right now and if they are successful it will be back to the status quo but the OWS organizers are a pretty savvy group so I have hope.

30. Yes, I have seen the attempts to coopt it. The same groups
that accomplished little over the past ten years so like you, I hope that OWS does not allow that to happen. They coopted the energy that initially was on the internet and then corralled it into organized, partisan, party affiliated organizations which simply helped to continue the status quo, but they made a living from it.

People have to go in a completely different direction, and this movement has already begun that process. 'You have nowhere else to go' doesn't have the same meaning anymore. After ten years of signing silly petitions etc., never receiving even an acknowledgement from the so-called democrats, they are finally paying attention. For many of them though, they can no longer be trusted, imho, just like the orgs you referred to.

The focus has to be laser-like, and no energy wasted on what O'Reilly said today, etc. What a total waste of time all of it was.

Anyhow, thanks for your comment. I am glad people are noticing the attempts to coopt already. Can't fight something if you don't acknowledge it :-)

48. I dont think we can demonstrate until a new political system falls out of the sky.
We have the foundation of a great system. We just have to fix it. The French Revolution didnt help the French because although they knew what they didnt want, they didnt know what they wanted. After the chaos, more authoritarian rule.

We have to get money out of politics. This wont be easy but I think it is possible. We have to stop supporting those candidates that are corporate funded.

We need public funded, bi-partisan news.

64. Yes, it is a good system. But it is not in use at the moment.
No one is talking about a new system falling from the sky. That is what happened already. A Corporate system infiltrated this country's government and disposed of the one we thought we had.

That system which is now in place, has to be removed and the Constitutional system we are supposed to have in place, restored. And that cannot be done so long as Wall Street Candidates are running for office. But I think this is the time to begin to start removing them. The people have awakened and that is what they had hoped would not happen.

The message that they say they don't understand, has been perfectly understood by a majority of the people who are behind it by a big majority.

46. That is the sad truth.
Who can we, OWS, make our demands to? It is the entire system that has to be changed. Are we going to demand to the system, that it stops existing? I do not see how, unless our present government disbands and recognizes the people, the 99% are the new government.

Why make demands when they are impossible, short of a recognized change of governance, to be "approved" or implemented? IMO, OWS must "start from scratch" democratically decide if we want a Republic or a pure Democracy

and then go from there. Instituting new laws and regulations. All the while, recognizing that our current government is not functional and therefore useless. The military and law enforcement agencies will be the trickiest. They will have to be turned over to civilian control.

The realistic, sad and probable outcome will probably be that the military and LEO's will be ordered by "our" current non-functioning, corporate controlled government to quash this "rebellion." That's how they do it in other third world nations.

The enduring truth will always be that the people (hopefully) are awakened and this "rebellion" will eventually win, because we, just like all of the people in the world, demand our freedoms.

33. Media Out of Politics
The easy way to get money out of politics is to provide an equal level playing field for all.

We need to remove the monetary requirement to run for public office, this is an easy thing to do; create c-span(state) a channel for each state that allows candidates with the proper requirements for office (signatures) to gain free, equal, in person only, air time; this would bust out the 2 party system, allow those with real ideas to gain office, remove the practice of feel good/bad campaigns, remove the plutocrats/corporatists from office, and create new parties; the two party system of govt. does not represent the diversity of our country.

37. Bought Congress/Government
The solution to a bought congress or a bought central government as a whole is a Federal Constitutional Convention. Fire the entire central government. Fire the Judicial branch for their insult of “Citizens United.” Fire the Congress for their insult of “Super Congress.” Fire the President, for the constitution never allowed so much power to be centralized in one man, one office. Then the states create a temporary governing body, while they send representatives to the convention to create a new form of central government.

The act of a Federal Constitutional Convention is likened to a “No Confidence” vote of the government in question.

“The singular role of any government is to secure the rights of the people, any law that does not hold this basic tenant is unconstitutional.” – kdtroxel (corporations are not people, people are not corporations)

At the point of a convention, we could determine that the national debt is odious, a detriment to future generations, a debt that would enslave us all, a debt created by a corrupt government, a debt that must not be honored, a debt created by the lie of a fiat money system, a system that extracts wealth to the top 1% by design, for there was always more money owed than in existence. A grand world wide Jubilee, a world wide debt wipeout.

Whatever form of government that results from a Federal Constitutional Convention, it would be better than what we have now. Do not let the fear of the unknown rule you, for your future generations will either walk free or remain chained as slaves to a debt created by a criminal government.

“What will be the spark that drives the imaginations of men to think beyond themselves?” – KDT

Great, great messaging. The 99.9% of us truly appreciate Dylan Ratigan standing up and voicing the anger. The Denver Federal Reserve building has a huge 4 panel sign across the front of it now for people to come into the Money Museum and discover the history of money. And, as Occupy Denver marchers stood in front of the building and protested the Fed, it struck me what a contrast between us and the Fed as we are trying to help each other by fighting the corrupt system and the Fed with its banksters in tow only worships money.

I think it's something the OWS and the tea-partiers can agree on and could be a coming-together point. At least on this one topic. I don't think even the RW spin machine can make people say that's not the case.

57. The problem is that Obama is working for the very people that
Are the problem.

He is working for those that Tim Geithner represents. Which is why he cannot fire Tim, he WORKS for Tim.

He is working for Monsanto, which is why he appointed Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, as she has Monsanto ties and she will need to rule on court cases filed by activists who wnat the GM famine foods prohibited. His ties to Monsanto also explain why Mike Taylor nw heads the FDA, and why Valsick heads the Department of Agriculture.

He made a decision sometime in the immediate weeks after his election, of whether he would hold true to those progressive statements that he used so cleverly in the final weeks before his election, or go to the dark side. (Go to YouTube and google "Obama campaign" + LaCrosse WI + Oct 2008 and you can see for yourself how he offfered himself up as a progressive.)

And we know that by Dec of 2008, he had gone to the dark side, as Henry Kissinger fully embraced Obama for President, as being an important part and parcel of the New World Order. (Kissinger even used that NWO expression.)

62. A lot of people speak the language of Hollywood today.
It might help get the message out, so whatever, I'll tolerate it.

51. Recommended, but money in politics is just a symptom. The disease is THE INFINITE GROWTH PARADIGM.
Until you change the way money works, you change nothing.

Getting money out of politics? I call that an appetizer.

I say get money out of banks and corporations.

Let money creation be controlled by the people through direct democracy so that it is void of debt. That means as people, we must live in harmony within the natural physical limits of our planet. That means our economy must be based on sustainability, not growth. That means our money is no longer tied to wealth creation but is representative of energy, both the human energy we produce and the planet's energy that we utilize. I'm not sure what that civilization will look like, but I think it will be a hell of lot more civilized than the one we have now.

66. Thanx Dylan for speaking the truth to power. If MSNBC fires you, there's always Current TV
At least you can speak your mind there and tell the truth without threat of dismissal. I'll bet that felt good to let loose. Hopefully Obama heard that. Thanx again from the 99% Americans who love and do the most for this country.

69. Jesus.
That is the kind of rhetoric that breathes life into revolutions. We must save our country and our planet for the sake of our children and every living thing on it. We owe them that. Wall Street, transnational corporations and corrupt politicians are all that stand in the way. It's time to put a muzzle and a short leash on them. It's nice when solutions become clear like that.
