Zaid Jilani, Think Progress.org, joins Thom Hartmann. So what is the shady corporate lobbyist group The American Legislative Exchange Council - or ALEC - up to now? There's a right wing think tank working hard to make sure you're putting in your 8 hours...even when you're sick as a dog! The possible "dying fate of paid sick leave in the work place is in the works.

1. The "organs" of corporate America are plentiful these days. They
truly are functioning like one entity... an uber governing entity to be exact. Totally undemocratic.

2. I've worked at the same company for almost 8 years and I've never
had paid sick leave ever. I have two weeks of vacation time, that's it. No personal days, no sick days.

If you get real sick, you need to apply for FMLA.

The company has implemented a 12-point system where if you miss a day, it's a point. No matter if you're sick, have to go to court, stranded in a blizzard, whatever.

It forces you NOT to use your vacation time just in a case something serious happens and you need to use the vacation days to cover up any possibility of accumulating points.

The points don't "fall off" for a full calendar year after you've acquired them.

Lovely how they care so much for their employees.

3. There was a time when if a company didn't offer sick leave.

People wouldn't work there. The company would have a very difficult time hiring people so they usually only had young teenagers without degrees and perhaps illegals.

Now a days, you are just lucky to have job.

You know when your employer only pays you minimum wage and no benefits, he's saying if he could pay you less, he would.
