Eddy worked for 20 years as a cop in Brooklyn, NY. He’s retired 10 years ago and is now working in a restaurant. I was very happy that he shared his thoughts on #OccupyWallStreet from a cop’s point of view.

Found on Twitter, which landed me here: http://www.ulrikereinhard.com/2011/10/21/a-cops-point-of-view-on-occupywallstreet/

I agree with him, I disagree with him, that's true, that's untrue...

I sure hope he makes it down to the park.

2. Standard ex-cop...
sees corruption and a kingpin in everything. "One woman controls this stuff, and where is the money going." I wish I had a quarter for everytime I've heard cops or lawyers say something like that....

3. He is all over the place. He is on all sides. He sees coruption everywhere.
He has lost his religion and can see the mess. He thinks that hard work has earned Wall Street-ers their millions. It's clear to us that financial abuse has swept them into power and money. This interview is honest. It's his point of view. I hope we can "bring the really bad guys " to justice, too.
That will feel good to us.

6. He is judging people he has not met.
He should go down to the Occupy Wall Street group and talk to them. My husband and I have been down to Occupy LA twice. We are very impressed with the quiet patience of the people we have met there.

This man is bitter and overly skeptical. Understandably. He has seen humanity, sometimes even wonderful people, at their worst. He should go down to the OWS site and meet the people.

Also, he is misinformed about how charities -- non-profits work. It is true that, in some of the very large charities, the management is, like the CEOs of large corporations, overpaid.

On the other hand, people who run non-profits, just like people in for-profits, take risks in their lives. They are generally people who could be running businesses, but they take the risk of managing a non-profit because they want to help people or a cause.

A non-profit, therefore, has to compete with business employers for talent. In virtually every case, non-profits pay far less to their employees than a for-profit would pay to a similarly qualified employee.

Employees in leadership positions in non-profits have to have the education and ability to manage the business they are running --- and it is a business. Some of them need accounting and bookkeeping skills. Some employees need computer skills. Others need to be able to write and manage contracts.

In addition, public relations and fundraising skills are essential to non-profit managers. And in really effective non-profits, say those that deal with families or the homeless or the addicted, some psychologists or social workers must be employed. All of these people have to be well educated and hopefully experienced in their fields to work effectively and efficiently.

So when people criticize non-profits for the amount of money they spend on their management and staff, they are just showing their lack of thought and understanding about the kinds of difficult things that many non-profits do.

Ignorance and thoughtlessness are the big problem in our society. Teachers and employees of non-profits earn far less than they are worth compared to bankers and hotel managers.

Teachers and employees of non-profits do their work out of compassion for others and love of society. They have to eat, raise their children, pay their rent or mortgage and save for retirement just like everyone else.

This cop does not know what he is talking about and the fact that he is so opinionated about what is going on down at Occupy Wall Street -- although he has never been there and has never spoken to or met the woman that he claims is in charge -- suggests to me that he is proud of his ignorance and unwilling to open his mind to the reality that most people are wonderful, good and kind and honest.

How sad that he represents a portion of the 99% that is not taking advantage of the opportunity to experience something new and refreshing at Occupy Wall Street.

5. I've said this before...
Faced with what cops have to deal with, incredible stress... it's bound to make some of them think this way. Being a cop is not for the weak minded person with baggage to claim.

I hope he gets down to the park, too.

7. Where did that thread go about cops being dumb?
Could have sworn I saw it here yesterday. If you score too high on the Wonderlic test, you're not police material. I don't think Eddy had that problem.
