RANT: Progressives need to sell this bill, not continue to fight over it!
I'm fucking getting tired of the whining about this bill, that is historic,
no matter how much the Eeyores, and the fucked up media want to talk it down
(Republicans love that shit!)

I'll be goddamned if we, Progressives, kill our own chances in safeguarding Democratic
seats during the 2010 elections. We've already had the arguments; and already heard
all of the complaints like a broken record at this point,
and it is now time to sell the good shit in this bill to every single person out there.

I've noticed that while progressives were busy fighting about single payer vs. a P.O.
all through the summer, trash talking our President, and finding Teabaggers "entertaining", we didn't get out there, and the Teabaggers with the help of their media actually kicked
our ass as far as being out front.

This can't happen again for other policy proposals, and it certainly can't happen for the 2010 elections, or we ain't getting shit else, small, little or whatever.

We are dealing with Republicans who are willing to let people kill each other in the streets rather than do anything to make this President look good, and a media that ain't playing either. I'm not sure us being at each other's throat about a bill that just passed is exactly our best strategy to making more political gain, especially at a time that we have Citizen's United to deal with. I don't have time to fight other progressives when what needs to be happening is us fighting these funky ass Republicans.

We progressives love to debate the minutia, but when it comes to strategizing on how to make real gains, for the most part, we ain't shit! Some complaint about the Dem leadership, their lack of spine, lack of toughness with the opposition, but at least they know how to get shit done.

Didn't even get one day of feeling like we'd done something, before all of the naysayers go
back to the same ol' same ol' talk a lot about what should have been done, instead of what we
should be doing.

I'm ready to do something with this momentum that we have, instead of arguing about the same
shit over and over again, and doing not much else.

I used to consider this place an activists' site, but I'm finding that this is no longer the
case. Fighting each other doesn't represent taking action!

I'm joining the Coffee Party. At least, maybe they are gonna actually be working together
to affect change, instead of fighting each other to affect not a damn thing. :grr:

End of rant!

1. I felt like that yesterday when the ugly threads started to pop.
Not even a day to bask in the biggest bill in years and years that was for the people and a winner for the Democratic Party. No, it was it woulda shoulda coulda and the good got beat up by the pissed off.

There is something inherently wrong with people who must present the down side to everything and never acknowledge that good has been done. Reminds me of an old aunt who was a downer....my folks bought some new furniture, not an everyday occurance, and the aunt had one comment....'well it's ok if you can pay for it'. I've never forgotten that and the look of utter disbelief on mom's face. That is how I felt yesterday.

Today I feel like .... fuck em.

2. Liberals should also be protecting our President from the right wing smear machine
but they are not. There is a very good reason why the superior ideology is the minority (and often a powerless minority). So many liberals are more destructive to our cause than the right wingers.

3. Sadly I am beginning to realize that too
I remember Nader but I don't remember him encouraging the anger - the Teaparty has been doing an excellent job of winning over the angry IMO.

4. I'll check out the Coffee Party too
But please don't leave DU. It is still helpful to put the facts out because I think there is far more readership here than posters.

5. I saw some posts Sunday night during my daze of euphoria that
just stopped me cold. Hateful. And it got worse yesterday. Tempted to use 'ignore' which I've never done.

17. I don't usually come to a site
Edited on Tue Mar-23-10 08:32 PM by TicketyBoo
expecting to "Ignore" anyone. That's not why I'm here.

However, after putting up with such negativity, I started using "Ignore," and then I became depressed at how often I was seeing "Ignored" in threads.

I finally gave up reading "out there," for the most part.

This group is like the womb, and I am curled up in a fetal position in the BOG when I come to DU these days.

7. Coffee Par-ty!
 Time to work to make the Bill Better..not continue whining about what's not in it..that's not "progressive"(misnomer)..it's Regressive.

Everyone(and I do mean Everyone) who worked so hard to get this Bill passed knows it's only a beginning ..it's the dyed in the wool whiners who won't let go ..who are standing in the way of progressive just as much as my damn blue chicken dog.

"It's Not Dead". March 16, 2010

"No offense to some of my colleagues in the blogotubes, but I wish people would stop writing about how the public option is dead. I kind of know what they mean -- the public option as it pertains to the current bill(s). But the public option is not dead.

The passage of reform will absolutely make it easier to pass the public option later, and that's probably what will happen. I have no idea when, but I do know that if we begin to condition ourselves to the "public option is dead" language, we'll be less inclined to bust ass for it later.

Speaking of which, I trust that following passage of reform the kill-billers will be immediately launching their campaign to pass a public option bill, along with additional legislation to improve the legislation. No?"

NOWHERE on any other democratic site, do you see the complaining, bitchin and moaning, like you see here! Does the Coffee Party have a website yet?

16. I could deal with the complaining. It's the simple-mindedness that I can't handle
The people who type "this bill is shit" and just keep going, or the utterly baffling "this is not health CARE reform but health INSURANCE reform" argument that keeps popping up here as if this is supposed to make sense to anyone.

And again, DU is the ONLY place I've seen this foolishness espoused. It's like a teapartier spouting the bible -- sounds good even if they don't have the first clue what it means.
