Today the Obama campaign announced:
Sen. Barack Obama is bringing some star power to Indiana to encourage Hoosiers to register to vote.
Singer Dave Matthews, and his long-time collaborator Tim Reynolds, will perform in a free concert Sunday in Assembly Hall at Indiana University.
The deadline to register to vote is Monday.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are free to anyone with Indiana identification or an in-state student identification, and can be obtained at Obama headquarters in Bloomington, Indianapolis and Purdue. So, tonight, after registering voters at my local library, I drove home and there was a HUGE line outside the campaign headquarters. While students were waiting in line to get tickets, Obama volunteers were working to register them to vote. I pulled over to offer my assistance and wound up registering only about 8 people -- "IU Students for Obama" already had the situation well under control.
Sunday night at the concert they will register thousands and thousands more...
I've been sitting at the local library evenings and weekends for WEEKS and I hope I'll hit 400 registrations by Sunday night. Dave Matthews comes to town to perform one concert and the campaign will register 50 times that many people.
Damned impressive.
