I'll quit when the President quits
Some former supporters of the President have made some posts that they cannot support him anymore.

Some of these are from very sincere people and I respect their opinion.

I do wonder what they were reading during the campaign because on every major issue, Guantanamo, Iraq, Afghanistan, Negotiationg Nuclear reduction, negotiating with our enemies and a health care plan that would be short of single payer, he has done what he said he would.

I hear some Obama supporters say that they are leaving this place because of the histronics.

DU and the netroots do have an impact on both the party and the media.

The President continues in 5th gear. As soon as the health care bill passes expect to see a large number of moves that were held back during so as to not hijack the debate.

As long as he is in it, I am in it.

And I intend to be optomistic, obnoxiously so, all the way through to 2016.

I figure if your going to be optomistic you might as well irritate the hell out of people on the way.

1. I'm with you

I have no other mode than optimistic (if I'm not, I'm probably depressed) & I also see Obama holding to his promises about as well as anybody could have expected - especially considering the volatile political environment he finds himself in. I do criticize him from time to time, but I'll never "take my marbles and go home". Giving up is for losers.

2. I wasn't some 1/2 way supporter..
I knew who and what I was supporting before Obama became the President.

Most of his adversaries on DU don't even have a good argument..just cheap shots and rumors with their leaders advocating "MARCHING WITH THE TEABAGGERS"..and voting with the party of NO, repbublicons.

But, they will go down in quicksand defending that position.

Much easier to be optimistic with Obama than the last eight years and I appreciate the opposite direction our Country is taking..who wouldn't except Teabaggers and those who would march with them?

The one about Obama not being reelected today?

That thread REALLY brought out the whinypantses.

I was about to throw DU under the bus until I was told about this spot. LOL Wonder how long it'll be before we get infested over here.

The more he succeeds the more they hate.

I stopped reading DU. My wife never posts but has been reading for years and she's been driving me nuts because she's been complaining about the crap going on; she's still reading everyday. I gave it up to get away from it only to get an earful from her about it everyday.

7. I agree
I knew what his plans were and didn't have a problem with that. Now to say that on DU would make people say I am not a real Democrat or drink Koolaid and such.

I am with the President, he will get a lot done. I am now NOT with the crazies in DU, the liberal talkers (who we must face, will have better ratings if a Rethug gets back in the White House), or the media in general. I am with the President and the Democratic Party.

I am so disillusioned by liberal talkers though that I can't see myself turning some of them on again, and one in particular I did not miss listening to every day. People in the media that have turned on the President, who obviously didn't listen to him during the campaign, I am done with them for the foreseeable future.

10. Optimism had been what I've been living on
And now it's pure unadulterated glee that so much is being worked on AT ONCE. Lack of speed does not bother me but what impresses me is the handling of so much, warts and all, at the same time. I mean even very little things that makes life easier.
I voted with eyes wide open and I like and want others to live easier so I'll go with the man with the long lasting plan.

33. Personally, I've grown weary of the unsubstantiated
rhetoric and commentary bna, "opinion," solely based on emotion. No facts. Just emotion. One can't have a meaningful debate when the fundamental premise is based on emotions. That's a waste of time and bandwidth.

I am also not a quitter. I researched the man and listened to him carefully. I knew exactly who I was voting for, and why. I am not at all disappointed!

I knew I was in for the long haul as soon as I decided to back him as my candidate. I will continue to stand by him, not out of some sense of blind loyalty, but because I believe in and trust him. I would not have backed him nor voted for him if I did not.

I like what you said about "a large number of moves that were held back during so as to not hijack the debate" that are yet to come. I think so, too.

grantcart --

I just finished delivering my first State of the Union, and I wanted to send you a quick note.

We face big and difficult challenges. Change on the scale we seek does not come easily. But I will never accept second place for the United States of America.

That is why I called for a robust jobs bill without delay. It's why I proposed a small businesses tax credit, new investments in infrastructure, and pushed for climate legislation to create a clean energy economy.

It's why we're taking on big banks, reforming Wall Street, revitalizing our education system, increasing transparency -- and finishing the job on health insurance reform.

It's why I need your help -- because I am determined to fight to defend the middle class, and special interest lobbyists will go all out to fight us.

Help me show that the American people are ready to join this fight for the middle class -- add your name to a letter to Congress today:

http://my.barackobama.com/SOTU

We have finished a difficult year. We have come through a difficult decade. But we don't quit. I don't quit.

Let's seize this moment -- to start anew, to carry the dream forward, and to strengthen our union once more.

President Barack Obama

I helped elect the guy because I believed in his abilities and I'll be damned if I'm going to quit because a bunch of reactionaries on a website told me I should.

Hell, I knew it wasn't gonna happen fast. In fact, I knew that some of the things he promised might not happen. It's the cost of doing business.

But he's fighting a Congress full of Blue Dog Republicans and REAL Republicans who are dead-set on him not having any legislative accomplishments. I give Obama REAMS of credit for what he's managed to accomplish so far.

39. Well
I'm still ecstatic that we have a sane, caring proactive individual in the white house. Obama continues to impress me. You know, I'm not the most politically sophisticated, but I do know a bit of history, and a bit of how politics have to work. Perhaps more than a bit --and I don't pretend more or less-- and I don't stop trying to learn. I don't decide that I know everything there is to know and get a case of the fuckits.

Optimism is how things gets done. Especially in the face of adversity.
