State Dept. officials ‘furious’ at Cheney hawkishness.

ThinkProgress noted that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice insisted yesterday that Vice President Cheney “fully supports a diplomatic course over Iran’s nuclear program.” But that’s not the end of the story. The New York Times reports:

Ms. Rice’s assurance came as senior officials at the State Department were expressing fury over reports that members of Vice President Dick Cheney’s staff have told others that Mr. Cheney believes the diplomatic track with Iran is pointless, and is looking for ways to persuade Mr. Bush to confront Iran militarily. (…)

The reports about hawkish statements by members of Mr. Cheney’s staff first surfaced last week in The Washington Note, an influential blog put out by Steve Clemons of the left-leaning New America Foundation. The reports have alarmed European diplomats, some of whom fear that the struggle over Iran’s nuclear program may evolve into a decision by the Bush administration to resort to force against Iran.

In interviews, people who have spoken with Mr. Cheney’s staff have confirmed the broad outlines of the reports, and said that some of the hawkish statements to outsiders had been made by David Wurmser, a former Pentagon official who is now the principal deputy assistant to Mr. Cheney for national security affairs.

2. cheney is used to "furious" He even ignores "Irate" and "Besides themselves"
Cheney is one of those rare individuals who thrives and angering others, and feels like he is not doing his job unless he is stepping on people's toes with iron cald, spiked pole climbing boots.

That was his MO in the Land of Corpseratia; it remains his MO here and now. The interesting thing is how these type of people manage to collect some of the most committed followers who stay with them as aides, drones, and even shields, taking the heat and the bullets aimed for Cheney.

I used to work for that type of personality - and hated it. This managing partner's effort to improve her managerial skills consisted of reading the "5 Minute manager" throwing the book on the table, shouting, "This damned book didn't teach me anything I already didn't know."
When her ideas were criticized, she undercut the critics. WHen the critics were proved correct, she claimed that the plan was good, but the execution was bad. When someone else came up with a great idea, she stole it, and claimed it was always hers.

Cheney thrives on criticism and complaints, and refuses to budge in the face of it. TO the contrary, he gains strength and energy by pissing people off and scaring them.

4. Cheney is a lieutenant Morgoth, he left Andband to corrupt the souls of men
And in his success he has brought down the honor and glory of the Uttermost West, cracking and crumbling the foundations of the great halls of the White City that protected the peace for generations.

7. he plays her like a puppet master behind the curtain.
he uses her to project a public face, at the very time, he undercuts her.

The fiasco-filled trip to the Muddle East last year is a great case in point. Either she did not know that US munitions (clusterfuckbombs) were killing little kids at a very high rate in Lebanon. When that story broke, she looked like momma bear stole her porridge. Finally, at the very time that she planned to visit again, Cheney told certain israeli high ranking officials to ignore her.

6. Diplomatic theater
Of course, it's easy to use Cheney has the holy water to absolve oneself of complete inaction for seven years; what exactly has the State Department done?

Let's review:

1) They cannot claim responsibility for the disarmament of Libya; this is clear, based on their full cooperation to allow Blair to "meet with Ghaddafi" in November of '03. Afterall, they owned Tony something of course, he did his job as a dutiful little elf, and was George' mouthpiece in Europe, but that all changes now, doesn't it?

2) They cannot claim responsibility for the orange revolution in the Ukraine; again this is clearly evidence that BIG OIL countries like Russia, who is inoxerably tied to the North Sea, thru, dare I say it? the most peaceful nation on earth, Norway lead to this change in government.

Let's face it, people can be tortured and put to death, but the minute you start screwing around with the gas supply, you're toast.

3) They cannot claim even handed or patient negotiations with Iraq, prior to 2003, for even Hans Blix begged the US for patience, but to no avail, which led to Powell turning his hairshirt inside out, and claiming later "Blix was right".

So what's left? they can't muster the ability to confront real diplomatic challenges in foreign lands, Rice's leadership in the rebuilding of Iraq, led Bush to transfer her to State, to protect her incompetence, and now, the problems they face in the world are too large pieces of Dead Sea Fruit for them swallow.

So what's left?

Leak reports of their fury at Cheney's insanity, and surely that is what it is, and "appear robust and capable".

Really, what do the poor dears have left?

Nothing.

Regards
Pace

9. he reminds me of that
guy in the background in Hitler's regime. In almost no photos, pulling strings, never being caught with blood on his hands, but always in control.
