We interrupt this war torn world for a brief message - 2 kids and some kool aid
Every day as a human and a parent I am saddened by what I see - war, poverty, hate, criminals in charge, global warming, and so on.

Yesterday when I got home from the office I looked out the back window while washing out a glass. My daughter and her best friend were on the swing laughing about something and sipping some kool aid.

Both of them totally lost in fun and fantasy (both are 6 years old).

They did not make the world the way it is, they can't change it, and they pretty much have little ideal what it is we spend so much time on DU talking about.

They watch cartoons, not the news.

They don't want to take from others, go to war with them, they don't care if you are gay or straight, rich or poor, black or white. They fight over toys sometimes, have sharing issues, but nothing bad comes of it as they negotiate some form of peace or old man straight story steps in :)

I think most of us started in a similar way.

And the ones that still feel that way, are called liberals.

2. Eloquent
Eloquent analogy.
I still drink kool-aid on occasion and I am still fascinated by fire-flies.

3. I miss the fire flies now that I have moved to So. Cal.
We got lizards now roaming about, not quite as cool in some ways :)

5. Lizards are cool in their own way.
I live in the South on a farm and the fire flies have been glorious this year.

6. My mother-in-law wanted a kitten to kill the lizards
Our neighbor's were gone for a week and a cat snuck into their shed and had kittens. We kept one for my mom-in-law as she wanted one to kill the lizards in her yard - until I was at dinner at her house a week ago.

I was telling her I used to own some lizards, and that ate things like crickets. She suddenly decided she liked em :) And now my daughter is attached to the kitty...so I guess we have a new addition to the pet family- buster and wiggles (small dogs) and a soon to be named cat :)

8. I saw a couple in my backyard the other day
But, sadly, I have to go to the edges of town to see them in large numbers any more. They should be out in full force within a couple of weeks.

7. I have two small children and I feel the same way that you do.
They are so innocent...I just want to wrap my arms around them and protect them from the big, bad world.

Great post, by the way!
