Schlozman Admits To ‘Boasting’ About The Number Of Republicans He Hired

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing today, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) asked Justice Department official Bradley Schlozman about evidence that he hired officials for their conservative or Republican affiliations. Schlozman insisted that such qualities were “irrelevant to the hiring decision for a career position.”

But minutes later, Schumer asked Schlozman, “Did you ever boast to anyone that you hired a certain number of Republicans or conservatives for any division or section at the Justice Department?” Schlozman said he had. “I probably have made statements like that,” he said. Watch it at link~

Schumer noted the discrepancy in Schlozman’s statements. “If you said it was irrelevant at one point, now you’re boasting to people that, ‘Well, we hired Republicans.’ Is there a contradiction there? … It sure seems a contradiction to me,” said Schumer. Later in the hearing, Schlozman also “acknowledged ordering changes in the performance evaluations of some longtime lawyers who were not perceived to be Bush administration loyalists.”

1. I anxiously await the final results of these hearings on the attorneys.
This is very important that they get to the bottom of this matter and to Gonzales and on to the WH.

2. There are so many tentacles to this story; I am optimistic someone
is connecting the dots. Whether anyone gets punished is another story, but we can hope.

3. I watched the hearing...

and could see why Schumer was a damn good prosecuting attorney in his younger days. I guess Schmuckman thought he could outsmart him, but when you saw the look on his face at the end of the hearing, you could tell he knew his goose was cooked. It was one of those "oh shit" moments. And yes, the schmuck ordered a 30 year DoJ veteran to sweeten the evaluations of republican attorneys and change the evaluations of democratic attorneys to a less favorable rating. It pisses me off to no end this little sycophant is messing with the careers of people who don't play by the Bush crime family's rules.

On edit: and did you see the schmuck admit he spent close to 30 hours with other Bush sycophants in preparing for the hearing? Over 3 whole days to get the lies straight. Our tax dollars hard at work.

4. Thanks for that overview; I couldn't watch the hearings, so that's good to
hear. We have some fine Dem pitbulls, it seems. :)

6. Give Schlozman and Doan days to prepare for hearings and you still get this kind of performance...
Schlozman was lying under oath, and his attempt to shift the blame to the Election Crimes Head who wrote the book on the policy he claims he was authorized to violate was a cherry on top.

You could read Leahy and Schumer interrogations as having the primary purpose of putting Schlozman on the record under oath for future charges of lying to Congress and perjury.

First impression -- Schlozman was sent up to Capitol Hill to become the latest Repub stooge to wear the 'scapegoat' costume. He deserves everything he is going to get, but you know he lied about the White House involvement in the entire affair.

He was dumb enough to pull this charade after seeing Libby get 2 1/2 years yesterday for lying and obstructing justice? He is an idiot.
