1. I do too! And some are arch conservatives who would ordinarily NEVER vote for a Dem
but will this cycle. They say they are betrayed.

4. Not only do they not support him, they are thinking of voting for Hillary! Men!
Edited on Wed Jun-06-07 01:19 PM by DeepModem Mom
They're businessmen who look over the field, and, I think, see her as someone, maybe the only one, they would hire for a position of significant responsibility. She looks competent. (She has not been my candidate of choice, although I would support her enthusiastically if she's nominated.)

She voted for * in '00 and her hubby and I started calling her flip-flop. It worked - she shunned * in '04!

Brother now hates him.

My mom tends to shrug it off as typical politics.

7. I know of one family member and a few acquaniences...
The vitriol and displeasure that has accompanied this rogue regime has tapered off some, but there are a few individuals now whose funerals I might have attended at one time who will only be getting a sympathy card from me...

Adiós y vaya con Dios, I'll be busy the day of your funeral...sorry.

9. My pop
The last Democrat he voted for was Adlai Stevenson. He liked the GOP because he bought the rhetoric on smaller government and lower taxes, although he'd admit it would be a cold day in hell before the middle class ever caught a real break.

He was appalled by this administration and voted for Kerry in 2004. He mentioned the Smear Boat guys as what pushed him over the edge. He was from a generation where veterans simply didn't do that to each other.

13. Quite a few of them
In fact most would like to see him impeached! I am surprised at how many are for Hillary right now, of course the majority of them are women. The major thought being " men have fucked up the world pretty badly, lets give a woman a chance to straighten it out"! We give birth, we do not like to see our children die in senseless wars.

14. two cousins who jumped the bush ship in 2004
four sets of aunts and uncles and at least a dozen cousins who have since

I divested myself of repuke "friends" some time ago, choosing not to consort with that kind of person, but of the few who remain on the periphery, several now disclaim any support for bush or the illegal occupation of Iraq

I know no one who has become a repuke, but many who have left.

Not that any of that really matters in this country anymore.

16. Yuppers
My dad supported him right up until about a year ago.
When he told me he was disappointed in him, my whole world shook.
I wondered what it was we were going to have to fight about anymore!

Since my dad changed, my mom did too.
She takes her political cues from him, but I got my two sisters.
We always joke about that, because the liberal side always comes out ahead!

Also have some friends, life-long conservatives, talking about voting for a Democrat this time around.
Words (sweet words!) I never thought I'd hear...

17. My Republican husband
He voted for * in 2000. Was fed up with him by 2004 and didn't vote at all.

He probably won't vote this time either. He's a very disgruntled "Rockefeller" Republican, but still refuses to vote for a Democrat. He's against the war (Nam Vet)and out of control spending for it. He gets completely turned off when the Party talks about religion, abortion, and gays.

Well, I guess not voting at all is better than a vote for a Republican.

18. Used to see lots of Bush/Cheney bumperstickers, but not anymore....
.... and now conservative RW sites are using words like 'stupid' and 'retard' to describe Bush.

We may be in the midst of a massive transformation of people who have been true-believers on the RW Repub side.

19. My right wing mother voted for him twice.
She's not happy with Bush now, but she will never vote dem. She's not a religious wacko, she's not rich, but she thinks that we need a "big, bad military." :eyes: She justifies her vote by saying that she "voted for anybody but Kerry." I told her that she didn't vote Independent or Libertarian, therefore, she voted for Bush.

My mother & I have been at odds for a very long time, but in the past 6 years our relationship has deteriorated even more. When she stated that she no longer cared about Roe v Wade "because that issue is no longer relevant for me" I couldn't believe my ears. She has two daughters for whom that issue if very relevant!

I know this sounds mean, but if she weren't my mother, I would have absolutely nothing to do with her. As it is, it is quite an effort to talk to her or be around her for any length of time.

20. I have an aunt who can no longer stand him.
And my dad has numerous friends who despise him now, too, however, my impression is that none of them are going to take it out on republicons in 2008. These are people who have voted GOP for ever. They look at junior as the black sheep of The Party. The next republicon nominee is sure to be better...:eyes:

My aunt still thinks Nixon was a fall guy. I can't ever see her voting for a Democrat.

23. Do I ever!
I have a friend who even wrote a book about how he doesn't
support Bush any more. His name is Richard Viguerie, and his
book is called "Conservatives Betrayed."

Richard and I agree on just about nothing, but on this, we see
eye to eye, if not for the same reasons. He is pretty far out in
right field, but knows when to "check his guns at the door (his words)"
and much as I was expecting to hate him when we first met, I found
myself becoming friends despite everything I believe in. Go figure.

Even the candidates are trying to separate themselves from Bush.

So lack of support for Bush is meaningless now.

26. Of course they still support Republicans
That's why the National Republican Party is torn up.

None of them want Bush to be a Republican any more. They
don't want to leave. They think he did--or, more cynically,
they saw what a lousy job he did, and despite the fact that
they all secretly love his lame rhetoric, they see it's a
losing formula for now, and are looking for something that
will save their sorry asses. Republicans aren't suddenly
running as something else--they just don't want to have
to mention any four letter words ("Bush" for example) in
the course of their campaigns (family values, remember?).
