It is time to send some people to prison. An open letter to Nancy Pelosi.
Edited on Fri Jun-15-07 11:01 PM by MN Against Bush
Dear Speaker Pelosi,

These past six years we have witnessed a great deal. We have have witnessed a man who took office as a result of electoral fraud shred our constitution and slaughter hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians. We have seen the looting of our treasury through no bid contracts to Halliburton. We have seen the illegal wiretapping of tens of millions of innocent Americans. We have seen torture, we have seen thousands of Americans in caskets and we have seen them come home with severed limbs and shattered souls. We have seen the photos of children with burns covering their bodies. We have seen the people floating through the streets of New Orleans. We have seen too many things that we never want to see again.

The crimes committed by the Bush Administration may well be the worst crimes ever committed in America by anyone. You can stack up all the famous serial killers and their combined death toll does not come close to the death toll this Administration has racked up. A report from the Lancet and John Hopkins University that came out several months ago put the number at over 600,000. But not only have they killed a lot of people, they have destroyed the very fabric of our nation and our Constitutional government.

And what kind of punishment are these people being handed down for their crimes? Hearings. Not accountability, just Congressional hearings with no action resulting. It doesn't matter that the White House doesn't respond to your subpoenas, so far no one has felt the need to hold them in contempt of Congress. Instead you just let them drag the hearings out forever.

We have seen more than enough evidence, you have way more than enough to impeach and it is time you put that option back on the table immediately. You must use the full power of Congress to bring this Administration down.

I don't want to hear any excuses that you do not have the votes, put the members of Congress on record. Make each and every one of them state whether or not they approve of the serious crimes that are happening in the White House. Even if the impeachment motion fails we will at least have been able to bring the criminal nature of the Bush Administration closer to the public eye, and we can set the stage for war crimes trials which don't need approval from Congressional Republicans to move forward as soon as these people leave office.

You are in a position of great power at a very important time in history, and you will be judged by your actions. If you impeach you will have our full support, and history will look kindly on your position whether you win the battle or lose. But if you do not even try you will always be remembered as a person who failed this country in a time of great need.

It is your choice Speaker Pelosi, you can either be the hero who worked valiantly to save this nation, or you can be the person who sat back and did nothing to hold the worst criminals our nation has ever seen accountable for their actions.

So what will it be speaker Pelosi? Will you put impeachment back on the table, or will you continue to pretend that your hearings without accountability are acceptable? This is the most important moment of your life Speaker Pelosi, if you don't even try to bring about action you will not be looked kindly upon as more people realize the true scope of the horror this Administration has unleashed.

This is your moment, the fate of the nation may well lie in your hands.

Sincerely,

The people who's futures are threatened by this Administration

1. I hope you've actually sent this great letter to her via fax
She'll not likely read it here on DU. Thanks for taking the time to put your thoughts into words. Well said.

4. Here's Pelosi's OPEN E-MAIL ADDRESS . . .
americanvoices@mail.house.gov

If anyone else wants to "second" that message --

Btw, for anyone who tries to tackle the job of responding to various Sens and Reps making comments daily on the floor of the house or Senate or in press interviews . . . going in and out of websites and filling out forms is total frustration -- ridiculous.

We all have to demand open e-mail for every Senator and Rep --

Imagine if every time you wanted to call their offices you had this run-around?

When they come to the floor of the USHR or the Senate, they don't do so in order to address simply their own constituents!! They want the nation to hear what they are saying. That being true, they had better be prepared to hear from the entire nation in return.

14. Thank you for adding that e-mail address
I had sent it to both the e-mail address she has for her constituents and the one she has for her role as Speaker of the House, but I did not know about that one until you pointed it out to me. Hopefully after sending it to all three addresses I will get some kind of response.

13. If Nancy "off the table" Pelosi doesn't wake up soon. . .
Edited on Sat Jun-16-07 01:22 AM by pat_k
. . the personal moral and political price she pays may be higher than she can possibly imagine. Trivial though her fate is compared to the fate of the nation, her own sake I hope she "sees the light" in time.

War crimes, terrorizing the nation with the threat of "mushroom clouds in 45 minutes," illegally spying under color of law -- these are violations so grave that violators are subject to the punishment of death (U.S. Code Title 18 section 2441, War Crimes and Title 18, Section 844 paragraph e. Bomb Threat.)

Those we gave the power to impeach and remove are willfully refusing to act. They are chosing to leave the MASSIVE power of the American presidency in the hands of men they know to be reckless criminals. Their dereliction of duty; their refusal to "support and defend" is itself an intolerable crime against our constitutional democracy.

Instead of using the power we delegated them to fight for the impeachment and removal of Bush and Cheney, Nancy "off the table" Pelosi and the so-called "leadership" are doing everything in their power to SUPPRESS any Member who threatens to take up the fight. They are promoting propaganda that impeachment can't, won't, or shoudn't happen. They seek to silence the Americans who are demanding action. This intolerable behavior is FAR more devastating to the nation than anything the 'bad guys' can do to us.

They are failing us today, but they can redeem themselves tomorrow by taking up the impeachment fight.

15. I am sure Democratic leaders remember full well the anthrax sent to democrats early in Bush*'s rule.
I would be shocked if any actually did anything against this Administration. This is really and truly about "life and death"
This Cabal in power now will stop at absolutely nothing.

16. Sometimes I do wonder if they are being blackmailed...
But even if they are they need to stand up and be brave because they are not the only ones who have to worry, the whole planet needs to worry. A lot of people have died and a lot more people will die if this administration is not stopped, our Congress needs to be brave as the fate of our nation is in their hands right now.

17. Easier said than done and the fate of the country is in Republican hands right now
Edited on Sat Jun-16-07 09:31 AM by Toots
If they were brave they would have done something before now. Bush* knows full well he can do anything he wishes and no one will dare try and stop him. It is just the way it is..Oh they make a grand show of holding hearings and speechifying but when push comes to shove they curl up into little balls and whimper. Maybe the Wizard will give them courage but otherwise we just have to accept what is.. One former Democrat turned Republican has some courage though. Bloomberg told people of New York to "get a life" and quit their worrying over terrorists. He said they had a way better chance of getting hit by lightning than by terrorist. It would be nice to hear a Democrat say something like that..

18. I don't see why we have to accept that
They are elected to do their jobs, and if they don't do their jobs there is no reason for us to be complacent.

21. Thank you.
You summed up exactly what I feel. I don't honestly know who I'm angrier at right now--the GOP for ruining this country and leading to the slaughter of thousands of innocents in Iraq or our Democratic "leadership" for sitting on their ass and not doing a damn thing about it now they have control of both houses. I feel lied to and betrayed by people I once had a great deal of admiration for. I just feel myself disconnecting from my party bit by bit every single day because of their inaction. To me it's just as big of a sin to sit idly by than it is to do commit the evil Bushco has. There is still time to right these wrongs. The question is whether or not Pelosi will get off her ass and actually, finally do something.
