God. I feel dirty and sick. Is THIS what the GOP thinks?
A "friend" sent this to me, saying she thought he had
some good points. After listening to this video for
15 minutes, I want to end my friendship with thie lady.

If the GOP believes this crap in their heart, our
country will be divided forever.

It makes me sick to think there is slime like this
in this world.

7. It's only taken them 20 or 30 years to turn "liberal" into a dirty word...
I can't get to You Tube or any of the other political videos people post about here, but I can tell you are really distressed at the success of the propaganda campaign to divide the nation.

I think you are within your rights to rethink this friendship, but you might start by telling your erstwhile friend what offends you and why, and that you wonder why she thought there were "good points"--and, does she think those "points" apply to YOU? By turning it around that way, perhaps she will see that it hurts an actual person, one that she knows.

Ah well.

10. Yes, this is a lot of what the GOP thinks.
Base your arguments on made-up suppositions, and you can reach any conclusion you desire.
This is what this guy does. He's obviously no idiot, although he's a little sad, desperately
looking to be correct, and needing to make up a fantasy world of "liberals" who "hate
America" blah blah blah--he just uses the usual right-wing phrases to back up his points.

Look for a LOT of the far right to parrot this guy. It's what they want to hear, and
no one is as good as spouting off what they want to hear in place of what they think
as the radical right. Guys like this one are a godsend, as they provide the next round
of "thought" that their supporters no longer will need to do for themselves. Who cares
that his descriptions of progressives and liberals are totally made-up? Fox has been
doing that for years, and made a fortune at it.

A couple of thoughts:

He claims that liberals said America deserved to get hit by 9/11.
Oh,really? I thought that was Pat Robertson and Falwell that said that.

He claims that all liberals wanted to see Saddam Hussein stay in power
so he could keep his rape rooms open.
Hmmm, so we kept the rape rooms open for him?

Liberals promote promiscuity instead of abstinence for young people.
No, liberals promote an intelligent, practical means of young people
avoiding unwanted pregnancy.

Liberals side with evil over good.
Well that says it all right there. Liberals just hate America, truth, justice,
Mom and apple pie!!
No, liberals think evil is not conquered by electing a fucking moron to lead
the best country in the world into a ditch.
You do not fight terrorism by electing a mental midget and allow him to use
a world war II model of warfare to fight a philosophy and the individuals willing
to die to perpetuate it.
Bush's means of making a name for himself as a "war president" has amounted to
letting a fool take down a bumble bee with a rocket launcher.
Liberals don't believe that allowing petrochemical corporations to determine our
foreign and domestic policy has led the rest of the world to respect us. Go figure.

:banghead:

If there is a transcript somewhere I'd like to torture myself by reading
the rest of this crap and giving it the thrashing it deserves.

But now I am going to go weep over the number of people who think like
this sob.

As soon as he began his speech proper, I could only listen to about 1 minute -- right at the point where he talked about how "liberals" hate America.

What a pity to see an otherwise quick and agile mind choose an entire lifestyle of hate based solely upon assuming the wrong axiom.

Wonder if he has a part of his brain, way in the back, gnawing away at him, for the hateful rhetoric he puts out for cash and the pats on the head that he gets from the other purveyors of hate.

I still can't fathom how people can listen to this and get drawn in. Is hate that inherent in people's souls that they can listen to this and cheer? The man is promoting hatred against other Americans???

They divide us so they can fleece us seperately. Heaven forbid the changes that could be made if we all agreed that this kind of speech is useless and only serves the purposes of our corporate masters.

They know damn well that they have been wrong about everything, but they are the ones who want to twist and spin the facts to demonize liberal ideals, to justify their oppressive corrupted evil views and allegedly prove liberal ideals wrong.

28. Haven't see the video yet, but does it sound anything like this speech?
So I read that the former United States is so desperate for medical supplies that they have allegedly sent several containers filled with wheat and tobacco - a gesture, they said, of good will.

You want to know what I think?

Well, you're listening to my show, so I will assume you do...

I think it's high time we let the colonies know what we
really think of them. I think it's payback time for a little tea party they threw for us a few hundred years ago. I say we go down to those docks tonight and dump that crap where everything from the Ulcered Sphincter of Arse-erica belongs! Who's with me? Who's bloody with me?

Did you like that? USA - Ulcered Sphincter of Arse-erica, I mean what else can you say? Here was a country that had everything, absolutely
everything, and now, 20 years later, is what? The world's biggest leper colony. Why?

Godlessness. Let me say that again. Godlessness.

It wasn't the war they started. It wasn't the plague they created. It was Judgement.
No one escapes their past. No one escapes Judgement. You think he's not up there? You think he's not watching over this country? How else can you explain it?

He tested us, but we came through. We did what we had to do. Islington. Enfield. I was there, I saw it all. Immigrants, Muslims, homosexuals, terrorists, disease-ridden degenerates - they had to go.
Strength through unity. Unity through faith. I'm a God-fearing Englishman and I'm God-damned proud of it!

-----

Just a little something from V For Vendetta to remind you of the kind of mindset we're really against. Next thing you know, your little friend will want you to read The Turner Diaries next. I've read it myself - can't say that I recommend it; I only read it as an exercise in Spinoza's philosophy of trying to understand human actions rather than scorn them.

But if this person keeps pressing the issue, you're probably better off without her.

30. dang it, he talks too fast
and there is no way to rewind.

To an extent, I am not sure what bothers you, because the mainstream of DU often talks exactly the same way about Republicans - they are evil, stupid and/or insane.

We may not have as large a microphone here, and it is disgusting to me that the Heritage Foundation, which promoted this crap, is tax exempt as an 'educational' foundation.

An this a$$hat has the nerve to claim that it is liberals who reject all 'fact, logic, evidence, justice, morality and decency' (that was the list I was trying to get, but he said it too fast, so I have probably not quoted him.)

Turning to his analogy about liberals who hate their wife, where the wife is America. America did not get beaten up on 911. America got punched in the eye. So we are in a restaurant and I am complaining about my wife, maybe just to vent, maybe to work against the propaganda that she's 'perfect' whereas I see flaws that I would like to correct (maybe she spends too much money on jewelry when I think we need to save for the kids' college and our retirement.) So we look out the window and see an Arab haul off and deck her. Our responses - I, as a liberal, run to her, try to make sure she's okay, wanna take her to see a doctor. His response, as a conservative, is to declare jihad on all Arabs. He pulls out an uzi and starts gunning down random Arabs. In fact, even though we know the guy who punched my wife is hiding in Queens, he wants to invade Long Island because there's a guy living there who he has never liked and also has a nice apartment he wants to steal. Because we liberals think this is whacked, just bizarre and wrong, we must hate America.

He says that liberals are always against what is 'good, right, and successful'. If that is true, then how is it that Clinton managed to create soooooo many jobs, AND a huge surplus? Yet, when a conservative liar was chosen by SCOTUS, he returned to Reaganomics, which his dad at one point, before he sucked up in order to advance his own career, called 'voodoo economics' and which was proven in the 1980s to create huge deficits.

It is not the 'attempt to be right' that liberals are working against. It is the dogmatic insistence by the right wing that they are right, and ignoring evidence and telling lies to promote their policies (WMD, Armstrong Williams, tax cuts which they denied were aimed at rich people, etc.) Nobody has told more and more brazen lies than the Bush Administration. You cannot tell me that those liars, murderers and thieves are trying to be right. Okay, you can tell me that, but I am not uninformed or deluded enough to believe it.

32. I have to disagree
Yes, we often slam Repubs. But we don't take it to the extreme that this guy did. He has accused liberals of every bad thing that could possibly ever happen. It's so over the top it became a parody. He literally did come out and state that liberals have always been wrong on every issue in history.

Also, I think there's a different dynamic going on. He said all sorts of things about liberals, and they aren't accurate. But, we do have a point when we talk about conservatives and repubs as a group, for one very good reason - they police their members much more heavily than we do. For example, there's a number of subjects on DU that are well-known to start flamewars. Our response has always been to argue, and then let things go. Sometimes someone gets banned, but it's not all that often in comparison to Free Republic, where any statement not in complete lockstep with the mass gets pulled off in seconds. I think this speaks to our tolerance of other ideas more than theirs. I think also this means that it is possible to talk about repubs and conservatives as a group much more easily than it is to talk about liberals as a group, because we have a more diverse opinion than is allowed in their groups.

36. You did not have to disagree.
Your just being mean  :P

I see alot of the same on DU. Bush, or Rove, or the neocons or the BFEE or the corporatists are to blame for every bad thing that ever happens.

What you talked about there is perhaps an example of the tolerance of the DU admins compared to rimjob. The masses of DU are not always as tolerant, but I think they also have started an ignore campaign using the code-word 'concern'.

DU used to be even less tolerant though. For example, when a person came on with the username 'Jesus Saves' there was a feeding frenzy, although he lasted a while before finally being baited and banned.

I still remember this guy, who made a ridiculous argument against 'the glass ceiling'. He was swarmed, insulted, and for the crime of defending his thesis, banned:

"Because I am challenging a notion that they blindly accept
And they can't back up their statements with logic so they attack me personally.

I am just sitting here, taking a break from studying and drinking a cup of coffee. I like a good hearty debate. No reason to throw around insults. Just defend your position.
kissmyasscroft 05-15-05"

It is, however, a tribute to the tolerance of DU and a minor miracle, that I am still here, but like Mr. Benchley's and Jiacinto's long life, it is an offense to some. Then again, nobody here is liked by everybody, except NewYawker99.

there's the quote I was looking for. I would not have had to listen to his first ten minutes twice:

"all that's required to usher in this utopia is the rejection of all fact, reason, evidence, logic, truth, morality, and decency"

"Rejection of all fact" says the Foundation which is determined to show, in the face of incontrovertible facts, that tax cuts for the rich actually increase revenue. At least their brother organization, Cato, was still arguing for that. I guess Saddam had WMDs too, but we liberals just wouldn't admit it.
