Can't beat 'em, join 'em right?

Just give more grants and loans for the purpose of starting businesses, particularly to ambitious construction workers /carpenters/skilled American workers who have been displaced or can no longer earn a living in their trades. This way, they can continue working in what they're skilled at and they can save money by hiring guest workers who will perform the jobs other Americans won't do? Everybody wins?

1. Large corps have no desire to see that happen. So it won't.
Not till we get a REAL majority.

2. A flippand digression, I admit, but I creased up at Joe Bageants'
contrasting takes on small businessmen, as viewed by Reagan and one, Mad Dog Howard:

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and the engine of job creation.
-- Ronald Reagan

I never met a small businessman yet who didn't have one finger up his ass and the other on the scales.
-- Mad Dog Howard

3. That's the current problem
A handful of contractors hire illegals, making it difficult for honest contractors to compete and putting construction workers out of work because they can't provide for their family on $10 hr. Guest worker will make that worse, not better.

4. you must never have been self employed, this idea stinks
so your idea is to take a guy displaced by an illegal immigrant, a guy who once had a JOB and got health insurance, and turn him into a small businessman with a LOAN (debt) and the inability to buy any private health insurance -- many many MANY of the small business/self-employeds i know have zero health insurance because they can't get on a group plan, includes myself, i went w.out any health insurance for 15 years

your idea is just to put the guy more and more and more in debt, and to push this debt on him on place of the job he once held

that is wrong and cruel idea, why not just give the guy a gun and invite him to shoot himself now? at least his misery would be over quicker

we don't need any more damn guest workers, we need FAIR PAY period

5. What's the alternative though?
You make some good points.

Maybe the guy has a fighting chance of becoming a millionaire if his/her business takes off. S/He will lose his job regardless, so why not give him/her the opportunity to start a business?
