McClatchy: Pelosi to lead Katrina delegation to Gulf Coast
Pelosi to lead Katrina delegation to Gulf Coast
By Maria Recio | McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will lead a delegation of 15 House members to New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast on Aug. 12-14 to draw attention to the region just before the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Pelosi, D-Calif., who led a group of 29 House Democrats for last year's anniversary when her party was in the minority, is looking to contrast the Democrats' active response to hurricane victims with that of the Bush administration.

Although the trip is being labeled "bipartisan," it was unclear if any Republicans would be joining the speaker.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C., who will be on trip, said that after last year's visit, "we set to work meeting with local officials, touring the region and determining the needs around infrastructure, education, health care, public safety and housing. We made a commitment to do better to help the Gulf Coast."

2. After 2 yrs it IS a photo-op...like there's no way to stop
the truth. Bush can fix 1 bridge for white MN, but is obviously not up to helping the 'other' class in NOLA. It is a shame and it's a shame he doesn't even know it's a shame.

terra, terra, terra, which we have spent millions on and we didn't even get a lousy t-shirt. All we got was more FEAR, and more
oooga booga and more terra, terra, terra.

5. C'mon down
We may have a storm in the gulf about then, so it could get Kahrayzee!

I wouldn't mind going to that town meeting though. I wonder where and when.

Just going to be keeping an eye on the Caribbean. With the temps in the upper 90's all this week, the gulf waters will be boiling.

6. I say put some salt on her tailfeathers and ground her jet.
Perhaps Madame Squeaker could stop off at Crawford to breakfast/lunch/or dine with her old "friend" George.

Of course it's a photo op. Katrina trumps FISA?
