Matthews: Where have all the "big, beefy" "every-way big guy" Democrats gone?
Matthews: Where have all the "big, beefy" "every-way big guy" Democrats gone?

While discussing the Democratic presidential candidates on the August 8 edition of MSNBC's Hardball, host Chris Matthews asserted: "I don't see a big, beefy alternative to {Sen.} Hillary Clinton {D-NY} -- a big guy. You know what I mean? An ... every-way big guy. I don't see one out there. I see a lot of slight, skinny, second- and third-rate candidates." Matthews prefaced his comment by saying, "I guess I'm thinking of an Eddie Rendell were in the race -- the governor of Pennsylvania -- or if {former Vice President} Al Gore were in the race or someone else who's a good heavyweight to be running."

As Media Matters for America noted, during MSNBC's August 7 coverage of the AFL-CIO Democratic presidential forum, Matthews asked Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson about former Sen. John Edwards' (NC) performance: "Why did they seem to be glancing blows that didn't grab the audience? Is the fact that he's a small man -- I mean, literally, physically?" Robinson responded: "He's not physically that small."

Matthews' characterization of Gore as "a good heavyweight" marks a change from his previous characterizations of Gore. As Media Matters noted, on the December 21, 2006, edition of Hardball, Matthews asked Washington Times editorial page editor Tony Blankley if Gore was "in fighting weight" and then said: "He's the Hindenburg."

1. Tweety's upset because there's not enough man-crush material for him!
That guy gets weirder every day.

I would like to know if he's even aware of that. He brings it up all the time.

7. By "big" he seems to mean "fat"! What is so great about "fat" or beefy?
Does the fact that most of our candidates are "fit' bother him? Is he projecting his own weight problem?

9. ummmm, big hunky guys...
man meat.

hot sizzling grade A...

can be interesting to think about, but is not how to choose a prez, at least for anyone who has gotten beyond middle school.

Matthews is consistently weird about this issue. It makes me wonder if he's obsessed with being a "small man" himself, ifyouknowwhatImean...

maybe he should get a silicone implant or something and walk around in a flight suit with leather straps between his legs. then he could think about issues rather than man meat when talking about politics.

instead of the hero worship that it is. Tweety is like a jock sniffing sports radio asswipe on any local sports call in show anywhere in the US. About 3 years ago it got to where it was creeping me out and I had to quit watching. Doesn't appear that it has gotten any better. You'd think the MSNBC suits would be embarrassed.

13. This guy need to come out of the closet or just admit he just love
republican "fake" tough guys. Obama and Edwards is over six feet tall so is Kerry. The small, short and insecure little man is Bush. And Cheney is short over weight and in bad health. Matthews is irrelevant at this point. Keith is about to take over the top MSNBC anchor position anyway and Matthews can take his ass over to Fox where he belongs.

18. Spineless opportunist.
Although I'll give him credit for showing some genuine outrage today at MittWitt's disgusting comments about his 5 sons choosing not to serve in the military but rather are serving the country by helping to get him elected. Matthews came down on the chickehawks pretty hard and actually pointed out that the chickenhawk problem gets very little attention in the media.

19. Well, Bill Richardson is "beefy"
As to what the fuck this has to do with being president, I haven't a clue. Matthews is an idiot and someone needs to tell him already what a jackass he looks like with his bizarre obession with how the candidates look, smell, etc.
