Waxman Moves to Enhance Whistleblower Protections (Hearings Next Week)
Folks, this is going to be a dog fight, because enhancing these protections will permit more conscience-stricken Halliburton whistleblowers to come forward openly:

"Full Committee hearing on the Executive Branch Reform Act of 2007 and the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2007
Tuesday, February 13, 2007, 10:00 a.m., in 2154 Rayburn House Office Building

Full Committee business meeting on the Executive Branch Reform Act of 2007 and the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2007
Wednesday, February 14, 2007, 10:00 a.m., in 2154 Rayburn House Office Building"

What an incredible Valentine to patriotic whistleblowers!

2. Shows Chairman Waxman's Priorities...
... and also illustrates just how vital it is for his staff's work that whistleblowers be shielded.

6. It'll Be Interesting to See the Witness List...
... for this particular hearing, once it's published.

I suspect Waxman will have some whistleblowers, describing the actual reprisals they've endured.

15. So, *were* they "back in touch"?
I realize you probably can't answer that. It's just my way of wanting to know that you are OK!

Probably one of the ways to ensure that is to stay public.

While I rant on about people who dont' stand up, when I know of people who do, I'm so impressed with the bravery and integrity! Thank you for taking this bull by the horns!

17. Those are petty bad
I take it such is par for the course for anyone who stands up to criminal activity in goverment and in the corporate world.
I know I have been discriminated against for being out spoken about many differant matters. But nothing that comes close to what people like you face.I could not imagine what it would be like to have to face criminals such as the ones you and other whistleblowers have to deal with.
People who stand against such criminals deserve all the protections they can get.

7. Speaking of Valentines....!
"What an incredible Valentine to patriotic whistleblowers!"

This is the perfect opportunity to send Rep. Waxman and his staff some valentines to show our appreciation! You gotta know they are receiving plenty of hatemail--let's even that out a bit.

"Dance with me, Henry..." :loveya:

11. Yes, we need to keep remembering to thank those with spines
who are working so hard to pull this country back from the brink! :patriot:

Thanks for asking... ups and downs. I'm hearing from my neighbors about problems in the building for which there are no answers. It's so upsetting to see older and handicapped people struggling to be treated with common courtesy. :( At least a few of us are trying to come together on it.

Thanks... I appreciate very much your question of concern! :pals:

21. When I called Waxman's office, the staff person who answered was pleased
to hear a "thank you" call.

There was a surprised tone in her voice when I included the staff, and remarked that it was clear he couldn't do all he's doing without a terrific staff.

They need to hear from us--we can be sure they're getting plenty of hate mail and calls!

A valentine for Rep. Waxman and his staff! :loveya:

22. Magnificent!
They're often underpaid and underappreciated - so that one call out of the blue can mean a lot.

24. Here's some 800 numbers for others to do the same:
800-828-0498, 800-459-1887, 800-614-2803

I used the first one, but I think the other two are still current.

If others have other toll-free numbers, please post them, as they sometimes go down.

These are free numbers for the Capitol Hill Switchboard, and you just ask for the office you want, then talk to the staff person who answers.
Couldn't be easier, and doesn't take much time.

One DUer a year or so ago said his new New Year resolution was to spend 10 minutes every day calling or writing, and spending a bit more time on the weekend, doing something to raise awareness of those around him. Sounds like a *great* idea to me, and quite doable!

26. Speaking of Waxman....
Did anyone catch the WJ caller on Friday..."How about my man Waxman, he's waxin' em good." (or something like that) Brian Lamb actually cracked a smile and a snicker(scratch that)...laugh. One of those priceless moments.

Anyway...this is indeed good news. Good luck to you Dave, and stay safe. :patriot:

29. Speaking of speaking of Waxman.....

I sat TRANSFIXED for over 3 hours today on CSPAN....watching him
take testimony from those 4 women whose relatives died
as Blackwater employees in Fallujah. (From hearings on Wednesday!)

THEN, he GRILLED the lawyers and executives for Blackwater,
ESS, KBR, etc.

IT WAS MAGNIFICENT! My family had to unplug the TV to
get me off of my keister!

ALL the dems were great, especially Schawkowsky and Kucinich!

The republics came off as little *hits.
