Edwards Goes After Clinton, Obama, Saying Don't Vote for Nostalgia or Empty 'Change Rhetoric'

PHILIP ELLIOTT
AP News

Aug 22, 2007 21:10 EDT

Voters shouldn't pick a presidential candidate on the basis of either "change rhetoric" or a yearning for the past, John Edwards says, seeking to draw clearer lines between himself and rivals Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton.

(snip)

"Small thinking and outdated answers aren't the only problems with a vision for the future that is rooted in nostalgia," Edwards said in the prepared remarks. "The trouble with nostalgia is that you tend to remember what you liked and forget what you didn't. It's not just that the answers of the past aren't up to the job today, it's that the system that produced them was corrupt _ and still is."

Edwards also planned to tell voters they can't simply replace "a group of corporate Republicans with a group of corporate Democrats, just swapping the Washington insiders of one party for the Washington insiders of the other." He criticized "ideas and policies that are tired, shopworn and obsolete.

5. Edwards "gets it"
Edwards also planned to tell voters they can't simply replace "a group of corporate Republicans with a group of corporate Democrats, just swapping the Washington insiders of one party for the Washington insiders of the other."

Any corporate owned Dems must go along with the tired Republican ideas. This will only happen with support at the grassroots level.

I agree with Thom Hartmann --- The corporate world is terrified of John Edwards. He's the one they DON"T want in the presidency. That's why corporate media will knock him down any chance they get. The problem for them is that he's an idealist.

He was calling Edwards, "Public Enemy #1".

Just one more reason to support Edwards.

16. They don't want a DLCer?
Since when?

Edwards was DLC his entire time in the Senate. The only reason he's not now is because he doesn't hold an elected office.

13. Did you manage to get back on?
I know of people who've been trying to clear up that mess for years, and are still having trouble.

Another arbitrary trick they're using now is matching the signature on absentee votes. A friend of mine in Citrus County and her family (3 voters) voted in the special election there in June. Two of the votes were tossed because "the signatures didn't look right".

This state is something else.
