There's serious trouble brewing with one of Bush's favorite dictators, General Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan. Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan's former prime minister, will return to the country on Sept. 10, ending almost seven years in exile in an attempt to block Musharraf's "re-election." Sharif, 57, is returning at a time when Musharraf, who ousted Sharif in a 1999 military coup, faces the biggest challenge to his rule as opposition parties protest his plan for a second five-year term and Islamic groups denounce his support for the U.S.-led campaign against terrorism.


Seems that Bush’s control of the political leadership of other nations is waning. First Maliki in Iraq is in danger of losing his pretend democracy to sectarian factions (big surprise), and Musharrif's counterpart in Afghanistan - Bush oil business buddy Hamid Karzai - is plagued by a resurgent Taliban, opium poppies, and massive civilian killings.


Chucklenutz' endorsement is no longer enough to keep these non-democratic thugs from losing the fragile, pretend democracies Bush contrived. Or maybe its his endorsement of their positions that has become part of the problem, as Republican politicians in the U.S. are discovering as well.

Either way, there's little doubt that the "Islamic Crescent" is dangerously unstable as a result of Bush's escalating foreign policy failures. As Bush puts it: "I know unrest in the Middle East causes unrest throught the region."



With brilliant statements like that is it any wonder other nations are stepping in to fill the obvious void left by Raisin Brain's so-called terror wars and illegal invasions. No wonder Iran is flexing its muscle, as are Putin in Russia and Hu Jintao in China. The instability Bush created has global implications and even the considerable powers of dark lord Cheney (which apparently include the ability to make Condi Rice and the entire State Department disappear) can't fix this mess.



So what's a would-be dictator such as Bush to do after he's played "RISK" with actual, real countries and living human beings? That's a question with many terrifying potential answers. We'll discuss some of the possibilities tonight.

I have another request to make - can anyone point me in the direction of cooking with ABSOLUTELY no salt? When I was talking to Mom, she mentioned this and I stated, "I don't know how to do that." She replied, "You cook with much less salt and with more fresh and dried herbs than I do."

This is true, but I need direction about cooking with NO salt, which her companion requires...HELP!

Yes, low salt is one thing, but NO salt is throwing me for a loop. I'll go searching around, but this is gonna be a bigger adjustment for Mom, who is rather salt heavy, and has been since I was a kid. When I cook and she's here I ensure that the salt shaker starts out in front of her so she doesn't have to request it be passed! :hi: :hug:

Unfortunately the news on Cosmo was bad. I wasn't expecting good news because obviously there was something seriously wrong with him, but I wasn't expecting this. He was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure and our vet said there really isn't much we can do for him. We have an appointment with a renal specialist at the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan, I don't know if they can do anything for him but we want to make sure we've exhausted all options before we make any final decisions.

Any word on Nosy yet? I sure hope he comes home, I'm tired of all the bad pet news. :hug:

We got horrible news regarding Cosmo today; he's in end-stage renal failure. I wasn't expecting good news, nor was I expecting anything this dire. We have an appointment at the Animal Medical Center tomorrow. We'd like to see if there's anything they can do for him. We don't have much hope but we want to make sure that we've exhausted all options before we make any final decisions. I'm really heartbroken. :cry:

57. He was our first kitty.

He was supposed to be a Christmas gift for Mr. smokey's mom - one of her kitties passed so we adopted him with the intention of giving him to her. We got him a few weeks before Christmas. The night before he came, we went out to by kitty supplies. I got really excited while we were shopping and warned Mr. smokey that I might not be able to give him up. When I saw him I fell in love with him. He was about 3 or 4 months old.

81. Got lotsa cat stories to share at the Hawk & Dove.

The little demons give us a lifetime of happy memories to carry us through the hard times. The one thing I keep in mind when they reach the end of their little lifespans is that there's another kitty out there waiting for a home, and this is nature's way of making room.

Don't know if you're a baseball fan, or if you know who Tony LaRussa is. He's now managing St. Louis, but for many years he was with the Oakland A's. Still lives here, and his personal charity is "ARF" (Animal Rescue Foundation), which he founded. They have an adoption facility I'd be happy to live in! Plus they run a resale shop where I donate all the crap I buy and have no use for. Actually, sometimes I buy stuff to give to the shop. Anyway, Tony's a great guy and walks the walk and talks the talk.
