3. Warner is pro choice and from what i know he's not a fire breathing
gay basher. He's 80, i think he figured it was time to go.

6. and he's been a Senator for 30 years
time to let the younger blood in Virginia have a chance. maybe he doesn't want to be working at 86? and this is not good for the GOP, honestly, this puts a VA senate seat in play, I don't think there's anyone with enough stature in Virginia to lock it up immediately, and there are plenty of Democrats who could play in what may be a marginal state in 2008...

9. OK my former Virginians
PLEASE don't let smug ass Tom Davis have that seat - I can't stand his sorry self and I bet he thinks he is one of the top GOP contenders - who knows maybe macaca boy Allen will try again....

Warner is going because he is 80 simple as that....and doing this for 30 years sure he thinks enough already

I can see Davis as the most electable Republican
but it's hard to believe he will get out of the Primary based in NoVa, he may be a smug bastard, but he's not batshit crazy, which is what the southern VA GOP party seems to like. Maybe Gilmore? I wonder if Mark Warner wants the job? I bet it would be Mark Warner's for the taking, if he wants it.

5. There has been speculation for over a year that he would retire
so it's not that big of a deal. Besides I don't think he's one of the real fundie types. Heck, he was once married to Elizabeth Taylor.

7. I doubt it
he's 80 years old... he's allowed to retire for the regular reasons.

10. Exactly...
A funny anecdote... He once spent three days with Elizabeth Taylor in bed when they were first married....I think it's in her memoirs...
