Police Find Man's Body, Guillotine In Wooded Area
http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/14099445/detail.html

The body of a 41-year-old man was found in a wooded area next to a guillotine he built and used to kill himself, police said.

The man, from the Detroit suburb of Melvindale, was discovered Monday by workers from a shopping center near his home.

Allen Park Deputy Police Chief Dale Covert said the roughly six-foot tall guillotine was bolted to a tree and included a swing arm. Covert said police also found several store receipts detailing the materials used to assemble the device.

"I can't even tell you how long it must have taken him to construct," he said. "This man obviously was very determined to end his life."

:wtf:

1. Another guy built a guillotine in the stairwell to his basement.
It worked.

Gotta figure it's a pretty quick and painless way to go.

18. It doesn't appear to have been so in this case.
The man took quite some time to construct his death devise.

3. Sad death, but admirable effort.
It's not everyone who can build a guillotine. Quick and painless death if done right.

4. How do you know it is quick and painless?
There are several stories of severed heads showing signs of consciousness even minutes after they were separated from their bodies.

7. I think pulverization or flash-incineration of the head would be more humane than decapitation.
For example, dropping a very heavy weight on a head, using a device similar to a guillotine.

Or using lasers or super-hot plasma to instantly vaporize the head.

Not that I am necessarily in favor of the death penalty.

9. If you want to be CERTAIN of instaneous loss of consciousness and awareness...
you HAVE to destroy the brain-- preferably all at once.

11. Hanging if not performed properly can result in decapitation (e.g., Saddam)
There's a bit of science to proper hanging. If not performed correctly, it can be far from quick or painless.

15. One of my friends killed himself that way.
His sister found him- black tongue, swollen head, and all.

I don't know that there is a painless, clean way to go. We never hear if it really was painless, now, do we?
