the AKLC Betrayus. Has anyone upset with this ad actually pointed out any inaccuracies? I didn't think so. If one can't attack the message, they attack the messenger. Moveon got it right.

On edit: "ad" not "add" Duh.

2. They got it exactly right and the neo-cons know it!
That's why they are trying to divert attention to these evil Democrats.

16. Yep... I have to ask these people; "Is it attacking the messenger
if the messenger knows the message is a lie?".

Well, it may be, but it's no less justified.

6. The Repugs Don't Have Anything Else Going For Them So This......
MoveOn ad gives them something to take the offense on. Even if their bitching is bogus the MSM will give them the airplay and cover they need to make this an issue and the Dems will fall all over themselves apologizing or distancing themselves from MoveOn instead of making the point that you made that the message is spot on.

You know what I would tell the Repugs if I were in the Dems place - Move On!!!!!!!

7. Consider what the swift boaters and corporate media did to Sen. John Kerry
They called into queston Kerry's honors and awards. For months, neo-cons, bolstered by the swifties, trashed Kerry's military record. And the corporate media was in on it. All to protect a TANG deserter.

Remember?

F**k 'em! This is a non-issue.

We get the echo chamber activists plying their trade right here. Funny thing: most of them don't know they are echo chamber activists.

11. I think there have been some slips on the media, I know I heard betrayus...
instead of his birth name. It has happened several times when they are talking about the ad, and it sounds like sometimes people are slipping and say betrayus. I will never use his name, its now betrayus to me!

12. Move on is hiring writers.
They sent me an email, mass mailing to members, but I don't think I am articulate enough to apply. Some of you posters here write up very good messages. Why don't you go to Moveon and sign up. Those with free time that is....I think you can write from home and they have people to mentor you.

15. Indeed Moveon got it right. So does Code Pink. Pretty consistently.
But sometimes they overshadow their message. That was the case with this ad.

Compare this ad to this teevee spot from VoteVets:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x53522

They're both hard hitting and they both go after General Dave on the facts.

But one had its message stepped on.

18. A RW hack said that Move On called Petraeus a traitor but Move On didn't!
It clearly states at the top of the ad: General Petraeus OR General Betray Us?

Good post, rateyes!

---------------------------------------------------

Our ad on General Petraeus

http://pol.moveon.org/petraeus_ad.html?id=11240-2919065-UaHKf_&t=3

We've been hearing lots of feedback from MoveOn members about the Petraeus ad. Most MoveOn members liked it, but there have been some folks who've questioned why we targeted General Petraeus or chose the langauge we did. (You can see the full ad and the citations that back up each claim it contains here). The ad has also been the target of a concerted right-wing smear campaign (read this Huffington Post article for more on that).

So we wanted to share some of the thinking behind the ad.

Was the ad accurate?

If you still have questions or thoughts you want to share with us:

MoveOn is a member-driven organization. There will always be moments where consensus is impossible,
but if MoveOn members don’t feel good in general about what we’re all doing together, MoveOn simply
can’t function. That’s why we take the concerns of every member very seriously.

Be proud of them. Dems that criticize that ad are foolish to do so. This former marine says if you support the troops then support this ad and help stop this tragic war. Admiral Fallon had it right. Betrayus is an ass kissing little chicken shit. That's why Bush hired him. If you don't kiss Bush's ass you get canned like the General earlier in the war.
