Inspired by the late national newspaper columnist Molly Ivins, four men have launched a nationwide grassroots campaign to ask Americans to "raise hell and bang pots and pans for peace."
Robert Manning, a retired fire captain from the Bay Area now living in Colfax, partnered with three friends in July to continue Ivins' "legacy of speaking plain truth to power with wit and style."
Manning started the "Raise Hell for Molly" campaign along with Brian Webster of San Francisco, Bill McCarthy of Santa Monica and Tom Ray of Taos, New Mexico.
In a column published just before she died earlier this year, Ivins wrote: "
We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. Every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war. Raise hell ... Hit the streets to protest Bush's proposed surge ... We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding, 'Stop it, now.'" ...
