Condemned like The Pilot, Catholic Newspaper used to do to certain movies? Condemned to hell. Condemned to crucifiction? Condemned from being Raptured? What? Anyone know?
was my reading list starting in about the fifth grade. I quickly learned to avoid the porn (dull and repetitious, at best), but it allowed me to discover writers like Bertrand Russell and even Henry Miller long before normal kids did.
"Condemned" meant you were condemning your soul to eternal damnation for reading anything on the list unless you were ready to confess it and get a lengthy lecture from the parish priest. My parents would also have gotten the lecture and I knew they wouldn't take it kindly. I took the chance on the soul and the hell I didn't really believe in.
The movies didn't affect me that much. I've never been interested in what my mother oh so politely called "art house" movies.
And an incredible waste of the people's time and money. I called four of John Cornyn's offices today to express my ire. I also asked him why he took money from swift boat funder, Bob Perry. Oh, and I totally blogged about it. ;)
