Here's an impertinent (and pertinent) question...

Do industry lobbyists (oil, insurance, etc...) work for any one company, or do they represent the industry as a whole? Do they compete with one another for the attention and support of our representatives, or do they work in conjunction to get bills passed (or cause bills to fail) that help or hinder the industries as a whole.

Anybody see where I'm going with this?

1. the answers are all of the above

some work for specific companies, some work for organizations, like AMA. etc. Industries form organizations specifically to lobby; in other cases a broad-focus org also lobbies. And there are freelancers who just lobby for the money-supplier du jour.

2. To an extent I think it is both..

Sometimes they are in competition and sometimes they cooperate.

It all depends on the situation at the time.
