== Britney Spears sucks Blackwater = By Mark Morford
Showdown! White-trash diva versus mercenary war thugs. Who rapes your spirit more?

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2007/10/05/notes100507.DTL&nl=fix

The ever-present and understandable and yet still rather whiny complaint goes something like this:

Dear (SFGate/Chronicle/horribly biased corporate media outlet du jour): Hey, why the hell don't you people feature more serious news on your front page? Why do you always insist on highlighting the latest trash diva slut whore celeb meltdown rehab tale over more dire and heady and serious fare, like, say, the repulsive story of those BushCo-sucking Blackwater thugs killing innocent people in Iraq as the company's chief executive smirks at Congress and actually defends his reckless goon squads?

Enough with the pop culture trash! Enough with the Lohans and the Hiltons and Jessica Biel's admittedly amazing ass! Let's have some solemn news, real coverage of real events for real people because goddammit it's a serious world out there and we need serious stories so serious people can analyze them all and furrow their brows and scowl and by the way Britney was totally awful on the VMAs and I'm pretty sure she had a boob job. Thank you.

It is, I must say, a common refrain. And it is, I agree, a bit of a conundrum, one faced by nearly every media outlet in the world, given how (to use the above example) the Blackwater story is indeed fascinating and brutal and bespeaks of a particularly nasty, largely unreported aspect of Bush's bleak war machine, despite how only a handful of (very serious) readers bothered to click on that story to read beyond the headline as it sat atop the SFGate home page for much of the day, craving attention. ...

1. Thank you for stating the obvious to a media who shows no
responsibility towards reporting the news.

2. When I first started reading his rants I emailed him asking if he would
maybe come over here to DU and check us out. If maybe he couldn't start posting here so we could read first hand what he really thinks about this evil empire called bushco*. The man has a way with words unmatched by most writers.

4. It' hard for me to take a writer seriously who writes "from a purely vibrational and energetic .....

.....perspective".

Unmatched by most writers .... I'm grateful.

8. They are tastey treat in GA and SC

You take raw or green peanuts and slow boil them in salty water. I use a crockpot. You eat them warm.

Some people put other spices in the water to add different flavors -- I like mine spicy hot sometimes.

Since peanuts are legumes there are like your boiled beans except they're better. ;)

Boiled peanuts are good simple soulfood best followed by cheap beer.

9. I haven't read this guy in a while.
This column is weird. Britney and Blackwater are similar because they both come from a bad place? WTF? Maybe the 'vibrations' loosened something that should've been tightened. I never felt any need to care what happened to Britney's baby. I feel ridiculous for even knowing her name. When it comes on Olbermann, that's when I know the show is over.

It's light fare and people need light fare of some sort at some point, but I'd be willing to bet there's an inverse relationship between following Britney and following Blackwater. The more you follow one, the less you follow the other.

12. Oh well
when it comes to KO I will sift through the chaff for the kernel though. He seems to be the only one on around here who tells me what is going on in this criminal mal-mis-administration

16. Mark is usually on top of things
but missed big on this one.

How about, Blackwater is OLD ANCIENT "news". We have been reading about them for four to five years. Just because MSM and SFGate finally noticed, it did not take any of us by surprise.
It's another ho-hum, watch them almost catch up.

OTOH Britney has never lost custody of her kids before. She comes up with new and better antics all the time!

If the Blackwater story, this is not the first time they have killed people, duh, was first page five years ago, you bet it would have rated more clicks.

I'm kind of ashamed of Mark for this one.
