Difatta is not an in your face christian but he is A REPUBLICAN which I found disappointingly absent from the Times-Picayune story. Feel free to share your thoughts on the conspicuous absence with the paper if you choose.

5. On the tuesday edition of the same paper

He was identified as a republican in a candidates profile. They went to the trouble of giving every other identifier of him, current job, job sought, residency. It would seem a routine matter to identify a politician's party regardless of the nature of the story. If its good for tuesday it should be good for thursday.

If he has been two faced about it as Larry Craig has been it is one thing. But if he has been discrete and not a gay basher he does not deserve to be held up to public ridicule as you are doing here. Being a closeted gay is a painful choice made necessary by the gay phobia and persecution which is present in our society. By holding up to public ridicule someone who has done nothing more than try to hide their gay tendencies in a gay phobic society you are indulging in gay phobia and persecution yourself. The fact that he is a Republican and that the media failed to point that out does not excuse you. It is wrong. Sorry but that is my opinion.

the police records from two law enforcement agencies nor did I put his picture on the front page of a large daily newspaper in South Louisiana. I appreciate your opinion; however every time I read stories such as this the last thing I think of is persecuting gays. I am not gay phobic nor do I bash gays. Quite the contrary if you have read my posts on the subject. It is extremely fair to say that the republican party in Louisiana is comprised of members as backwards and neanderthal as any collection of politicians in the country and he has aligned himself with them.

Making sport of someone solely because they are Republican and struggling with an identity and ran afoul of our society's gay phobic conventions is gay bashing imo. The fact that many Republicans in LA are "neanderthals" does not justify it. If we tarred everyone with the bad behaviors of the political parties they choose to associate with none of us would be clean. (What about being an LBJ Democrat in 1964 in Louisiana - or Maryland, for that matter? A lot of those "neanderthals" were Democrats then) Unless he has been hypocritical on this issue he does not deserve this, regardless of what other Republicans in Louisiana might be doing. You don't get a pass on this from me, regardless of what other posts you have made. THIS thread is gay bashing, imo. If you don't see it, fine, but I am still going to speak up when I see this. The fact that this is DU doesn't mean that anything goes as long as the target is a Republican. If it does mean that, I am out of here.
