9. A family of fundies recently moved across the street from one of my friends.
My friend and her family go ALL OUT for Halloween, their house makes the local news every year, they absolutely love it.

The neighbors decided instead of just "not being home", they're going to leave the lights on and hand out Chick Tract-ish pamphlets to the kids who call on them.

They've been doing it for a couple thousand years now.

And as you can see, fundies can use bible verses to back up their beliefs just like other christians.

No one's religious belief makes them any better than anyone else.

4.) Sorry, criticizing organized religion is NOT an attack on a group.

Nice try, but I'll hold off on the sympathy cards and flowers for now.

The first comment doesn't even mention religion.

The third one is absolutely hysterical.

What's wrong with a poster answering God?
God started the thread, didn't He read the rules first?

I'm not chasing any more of your links.

You are obsessed with being persecuted, spoony.

I suggest you move to one of the countries where christians are really oppressed if you wish to indulge your fantasies.

Liberal and moderate christians would also agree. Their view of conversion is that you see how kind and loving they are, and you want to be a part of it. The ones I've talked to respect people of other religions (or non-religions).

Conservative christians try to scare you into being christian. They are the ones who act superior to others.

I've learned to avoid Republicans and anyone who talks about their "God" all the time. Few of whom, if any, really walk the talk.

I am forever amazed how three religions can believe in the same "God" and yet for centuries have been intent on wiping each other off the face of the earth. At times, I wish they would do just that.

God did not create man. Man created God. The God everyone talks about anyway.

78. Excuse me, but did you not say:
"Fuck the the warm fuzzy feeling people claim they get when they turn the other cheek, fuck the idea that name calling is illiberal, fuck the snivelers who think I'm unfairly judging our enemies by calling them what they are, and fuck the people who bury their heads in the sand while others are out in the trenches fighting."

So here you are, whining about being called names and saying you've done nothing of the sort, when you plainly state this as your philosophy. And the "names" you've been called? Bigot. It applies in spades. In your journal you continue the propaganda campaign that Hitler was a Christian and have invested a great deal of time and effort on DU smearing Christians both directly and by association. Parsing your phrasing to avoid being deleted does not conceal nor reduce your venom.

89. No, that much is true: I couldn't find anything substantial from you.
What I have found is you defending Sam Harris and others whose tactics are to belittle theists. I see you calling it legitimate to do so, because it "shocks" people into thinking. And I see you trot out Matthew Shepard's body as a shield, so that whenever someone calls anti-theists on their bigotry you say "you can't complain because this kid died!" As if anyone was trying to equate name-calling with murder.

You twist, lie, distort, deflect, and at every turn make it your mission to associate Christianity with any negative image you can find. Like when you said that neocons are "Christians, to a man," apparently forgetting a few of them like Richard Perle.

I love happy endings. This is my favorite snippet from the story;

Around 12:00pm, the "Unitarian Universalist Church" down the street marched down the sidewalk with around 100 members of their congregation singing "This little light of mine" and "stand on the side of love", apparently in protest of Church of the Divide's stance on sodomy and Freddie Oakley. They marched loudly by the church 4-5 times, as members of Church of the Divide preached to them.

The poor little haters were such victims of intolerance.

65. Paul never condemned homosexuality
so they are wrong from a purely theological point of view, as well as batshit crazy.

-snip-
Saint Paul, whose commitment to Jewish law had taken up most of his life, never suggested that there was any historical or legal reason to oppose homosexual behavior: if he did in fact object to it, it was purely on the basis of functional, contemporary moral standards.

There are three passages in the writings of Paul which have been supposed to deal with homosexual relations. Two words in I Corinthians 6: 9 and one in I Timothy 1:10 have been taken at least since the early twentieth century to indicate that "homosexuals" will be excluded from the kingdom of heaven.

The first of the two, "malakos" (basically, "soft"), is an extremely common Greek word; it occurs elsewhere in the New Testament with the meaning "sick" and in patristic writings with senses as varied as "liquid", "cowardly", "refined", "weak willed", "delicate", "gentle", and "debauched". In a specifically moral context it very frequently means "licentious", "loose", or "wanting in self-control". At a broad level, it might be translated as either "unrestrained" or "wanton", but to assume that either of these concepts necessarily applies to gay people is wholly gratuitous. The word is never used in Greek to designate gay people as a group or even in reference to homosexual acts generically, and it often occurs in writings contemporary with the Pauline epistles in reference to heterosexual persons or activity.

What is more to the point, the unanimous tradition of the church through the Reformation, and of Catholicism until well into the twentieth century, has been that this word applied to masturbation. This was the interpretation not only of native Greek speakers in the early Middle Ages but of the very theologians who most contributed to the stigmatization of homosexuality. No new textual data effected the twentieth-century change in translation of this word: only a shift in popular morality. Since few people any longer regard masturbation as the sort of activity which would preclude entrance to heaven, the condemnation has simply been ransferred to a group still so widely despised that their exclusion does not trouble translators or theologians.
