Hillary?!!??!! on morning announcements at elementary school????
Edited on Tue Oct-30-07 12:54 PM by AmBlue
My politically savvy 9yo tells me that Hillary Clinton was on their morning announcements at school the other day. He was outraged because he knows she's taking money from US weapons industry and because it bothers him that they announced her in a way that made it seem she is the first woman president of the United States, when we haven't even had the primary yet. Now, he IS 9 years old and I'm sure they must have said "candidate" in there somewhere and he missed it, but WTF is Hillary doing campaigning to our elementary school age children???

If you have kids in school, please ask if they've seen Hillary on their morning announcements. I'm curious.

1. god, I'm glad my kid wasn't
as politically "savvy" at 9 as yours is. And it doesn't really sound like you know what happened. Why not call the school?

4. It's wartime, cali...
I hate that he has awareness of it too, but it motivates him to stop it so he pays attention. It's impossible to insulate them from everything.

22. Boy, my 9 yr old granddaughter would love it!
She is practically dragooning family members to support HC. I keep my preference for JE away from her for now. Once she gets going, she won't give up!

2. Talk to your school admins.
It may be as simple as your son misunderstanding or missing something. Were they showing pictures of her or what?

3. So do you tell your son how your candidate John Edwards also takes money from the weapons industry?
How John Edwards was integral to getting us into the Iraq War?

Or do you keep stuff like that away from your "politically saavy" son?

5. Edwards does NOT take $$$ from the weapons industry
...and also has said he was wrong and made heartfelt apologies for his votes and you know it.

7. OH. GOOD. GRIEF. I'm betting its a PSA, nothing more, nothing less.
The Hillary haters just don't miss a chance to take a little information and spread it into a huge conspiracy by the school authorities to make sure the little kiddies are indoctrinated young into the Cult of Clinton. I would bet anything it was an innocuous public service announcement telling kids to eat their vegetables, stay off drugs, study hard, exercise or something. I'm betting similar messages have been heard from Pickles, former presidents, congress critters, hell, even Bert and Ernie and Big Bird do PSAs.

It would be nice to know what she said instead of just freaking out that she said something, anything.

8. Yes, he does. He even took in more than Obama
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/10/17/defense-industry-embraces_n_68927.html

Running second to her in the competition for Pentagon contractors' cash was Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn), who raised $13,200, almost all from executives of General Dynamics which has a major submarine building facility in Groton, Conn.

Former Senator John Edwards (D-N. Car.) raised $12,200 and Illinois Senator Barack Obama (D) took in $10,000."

"also has said he was wrong and made heartfelt apologies for his votes and you know it."

Umm who cares? He has done so as a politically calculated move to get elected.

14. Hillary is taking large sums from weapons execs
Edited on Tue Oct-30-07 01:52 PM by AmBlue
Edwards took only a very small amount from people who are employees in the weapons industry, according to that article, which doesn't sound like pay to play. Hillary took more than four times as much as Edwards and more even than any of the repugs. She also took many of those amounts in excess of $4K from weapons industry execs. Big difference, folks.

Listen, any way you cut it, Hill using the airwaves of our kids' morning announcments even just to have a personal platform to speak to teachers is huge, and cheap. Even creative, I'll grant. But are the other candidates being given equal time? I was curious if she's doing this in other states as well.

I don't hate Hillary, but I do hate that she is in the back pockets of big corporations. That's what's wrong with our country. We are all ailing badly from the corporate ownership of our government and I'll speak out against any candidate that is more of the rotten status quo. I don't understand, frankly, all the defense of her and her corporate cronyism.

17. How much is too much?
And Hillary's money came from employees too.

Does your child know that Edwards took money from weapons dealers?

19. So Hillary's $50K in unforgivable but Edwards $12K was ok?
"Edwards took only a very small amount from people who are employees in the weapons industry, according to that article, which doesn't sound like pay to play."

Where does the article say that?

"Hillary took more than four times as much as Edwards and more even than any of the repugs. She also took many of those amounts in excess of $4K from weapons industry execs. Big difference, folks."

No, you cannot donate more than $4K per candidate by law.

Considering the honesty you've shown here even when presented with evidence, why should we believe this happened in the first place?

6. I doubt Hillary was campaigning
Unless they're letting nine year-olds vote these days.

12. You have a much bigger problem....
The fact that your 9-year-old is "outraged because he knows she's taking money from US weapons industry..." indicates to me that you're providing him with a real fucked-up childhood.

Poor kid :(

15. That's what struck me first too.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that the OP is providing him with a fucked up childhood, but nine year olds shouln't be outraged over where a Presidential candidate's funding comes from. That indicates the poor kid is being indoctrinated by Mom. Not a good thing.

23. I remember when candidates taking time to speak to the next generation was a good thing
They don't vote yet, but they matter. I don't particularly like Clinton, but I think in a free country every candidate gets to decide who they do their photo ops with.

Why the hysteria?
