I'm So PROUD Of My Parents (and THANK YOU Al Gore)
Dad called last night. Some of you might remember him (ex CONSERVATIVE Repub - got him converted with news and facts - he and mom voted STRAIGHT DEM last october).....

Anyhow, I bought "An Inconvenient Truth" and after we watched it, did what Gore suggested and sent it down to mom and dad.

Anyway they watched it a week ago and were both blown away by it. They sent it on to my Aunt & Uncle.

Dad calls me last night to tell me they finished converting EVERY LIGHT BULB IN THE HOUSE and how, while a small step, it made him feel really good to have done so. He is now on a crusade through their gated community to get others to do so as well. He is even going to write a column in their community newsletter encouraging everyone to do the same.

He is really pumped.

Nice going Dad.

1. The power of truth and open minds

Way to go. I'd be proud too. Every little bit helps. I'm glad to hear he's helping to spread the word.

2. Almost posted question about what DADCOM has been doin.
Thanks for the update on the awakening ;)

Good to hear about your folks passing the film along. Really good news that he has chosen a local method for activism.

None of us can understand all the impact me make. What really matters is that we make the effort.

Good on DADCOM & MOMCOM

You're doin a great job with them!

3. Excellent!!
I got my copy of the DVD from Amazon just 2 days ago. I was surprised at first that it didn't come in the usual DVD case, just a sleeve - but then I realized why. All that plastic that goes into DVD and CD cases is of course made from petroleum. A nice touch!

Now I'm thinking ... I might send this on to my friends and acquaintances in a "circular mailing" - as in, "Please watch this movie and send it on to the next person on the list." The concept just came to me. I'll have to work on it some more.

8. Well, most of my friends are non-local...
...so it would have to go through the mail, maybe across the whole country. That means I'd want to put in some postage money as added incentive. I'd like to eventually get the DVD back, but if it just keeps circulating ... that's not a bad thing either.

10. Well done.
Seniors in a gated community, subdivision or condo have a lot of sway when it comes to dictating the norms of the community.

11. I'm proud of your parents, too! What a great thing to read. My copy of
"An Inconvenient Truth" is currently making the rounds of my apartment building. Of course, since I live in one of the bluest parts of the bluest cities in the US, there's probably little mind-changing and more informing coming from it.

14. Add one more task, matcom....give a copy to an area library that needs extra copies.
From what I have learned, many libraries have waiting lists for it and welcome donated copies.

And three cheers for Dad.

It doesn't have to be an issue that divides us. Just one that we all should face together without delusions.

24. That is great if we all did every little thing we could it would make a collective big difference!
Someone tried to say that a few days ago and someone beat up on them for suggesting we could save 5-20% by shutting off electronics. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=115x82505 I have yet to have a electric bill over $32 in my two bedroom apt! When I moved in all the incandescent bulbs were packed away swapped with compact fluorescents makes a difference. I live in the desert and still have not had a bill over $32 can you believe that! Anyway if we all cut every miliamp off we can then we will have made a big difference!

Big changes often start with a small step. Please let us know if your dad is successful in persuading others to change their light bulbs too.

26. wow - a convert!
My brother and sister-in-law are GOP fundie loons and have nothing but contempt for environmentalism. Al Gore has been part of creating a masterpiece that puts in layman's terms the gravity of the situation. Kudos to having thinking parents who are capable of evolving. That is probably the best quality a human being can have.
