Disheartened
Edited on Fri Nov-02-07 12:00 PM by Highway61
I joined DU not to long ago to try and make some sort of difference. I felt like there were quite a few folks here I could relate to and that we were all on the same team. Our country is in so much trouble. We are at the point of nearly no return to what it once was. I would do just about anything to help anyone or jump on the bandwagon for positive change. Yet day after day I see bashing of fellow democrats.
I have worked in the medical profession all my life and even though a doctor on the staff of a hospital was totally shit, you would NEVER hear a fellow doctor say anything negative about that individual. It's an unwritten law. That is how the republicans work. Foley got hammered and was quietly sent away...never to be heard from again. Vitter stays on without question and Craig, well, you know where we are with that. I can go on and on. Yet, when I post something I think is really important, it practically gets ignored. Yet, I see a lot discussed that is a lot of moaning about something and/or someone.
While everyone is bitching and moaning the man "behind the curtain" continues on his destructive path of annihilation of our country and constitution. Yes, there are a lot of positive things said here but DU is like a club within a club...it's hard to break through and be heard.

The bitchers and moaners should channel off to Dear Abby and those who want to meet someone go to e fu&king harmony.com.
I know I am ranting but am angry and discouraged. This is what I posted last evening...3 hits on one and zero on the other. The vote comes up on Tuesday...While folks are talking about Dennis and the UFO incident (give me a break)a vote will be upcoming on a new Attorney General who thinks water-boarding is OK????????????? WTF...if they came for you in the middle of the night and took you away because of whatever and you found yourself in a secret detention center what then? I can promise ya, you won't be worried about Dennis and the UFO's or Hillary being, well Hillary.
Maybe I am missing something and maybe DU isn't what I expected at all. I have a lot to offer but I feel I have no takers here.

1. Maybe your first problem is that those are all bad links!

Essential post, and I have responded and let Schumer know how I feel.
I did not vote for him the last time he ran due to his dubious stands on some issues, but I think he will lose a lot more votes in this state if he does not stand up to BushCO.

4. If there was a bad doctor on staff--
--maybe someone should have spoken up. Just sayin'.

I think that's what most of the "beating up" on Dems is all about. Here, we can discuss among ourselves what needs to be done, and point out some flaws. Our candidate for the next presidential election will have probably the greatest responsibility of any president since Lincoln. It is only natural to discuss the strengths and flaws in order to determine the best possible person to lead this country through the minefield that the next few decades will be.

As for the Republics, let them take care of their own. They did it with Trent Lott, they did it with Harriet Miers, and they will do it with Craig and Vitter, too. They will have to answer to their own constituents as to what they do with them.

There are more important things for us to worry about.

9. Links don't work
but I can imagine. Also, for sheer number usually you can get more posts on the celebrity drama du jour than a critical news story. You might want to just surrender and head for the Lounge om occasion. I gave up trying to figure out if ANYONE is reading my postings. I have tried very very few original messages. It is funny though, wherever you persist though the replies be none and the boards are drifting off on foreign floods, the ideas somehow persist, percolate and circulate. In pre Democrats.com and pre-DU days I tried various forums of major media even the unexpectedly troll plagued Christian Monitor and IrishAbroad forums. Ideas get planted but good discussions are rarer than a roasting flame.

I can name several ideas that somehow, in this mad wilderness, circulated and were used or else people were miraculously on the same wavelength without having heard or posted to each other. The power of ideas and truth, kindred minds, the buzz of good company and common cause. Or it is looking with annoyance at a good clique rather than the bad cliques that infest so many other Internet political sites. Before the Internet you KNEW for sure that unless you collared a politician or got a personal response to a letter or got a LTTE published with a response or two, you knew your mind was isolated, ignored and powerless. Here, you can only worry that it still is quashed, maybe with good reason. Mainly I can get my fuming and my ideas out and down and available, for once, damn it, and get humbled by the measure it is taken, ignored or opposed or just plain ridiculed. And I have written dumb things, passionately offbeat things only the tired mind can produce and think it wise.

Somehow, I bet, even with zero viewing and a desultory visit by a moderator, your presence lives and effects the whole, the nutty group mind.

When doing phone canvassing there was a chance for REAL one on one discussions and the constraints were equally dismaying, presuming the people wanted to say anything except "Supper is on the table, could you call back?" And less kindly remarks. A few discussions with a few people really took off and I remember them still. Did it affect the votes? All six or seven of them? Funny as it may seem I think the ideas and effects spread more rapidly in this crazy digital free for all. Getting someone's goat(always unintentional, I swear!) can also be put in the perspective of foolish fun. The doctors and the fifty somethings could get together easily on a forum somewhere. There are huge issues only they address with any degree of knowledge and wisdom. There are people with reasons for being passionately impolite although it is never an excuse. The tempting freedom of the anonymous keyboard. Who can resist the godlike power?

I share your pain and hope I have broken up the chorus of the crickets and the screeching of the cats just in case no one else responds to THIS message.

In Three Days of the Condor when the hero has sent his revelations to the major media and the CIA guy tosses out the snide aside about whether any of them will print it.

And the scene where the brave wit said "What we have here is a failure to communicate." Just before they shot him dead out a world he did not want to go back to anyway.

13. You did
but I took so long posting that I was far from the first to actually note it. Memo to self: mention links first, then post.

Schumer is a nice guy who wants to be act tough and hopefully always stay low on the Lieberman scale where he has one foot. Polite to the people he "expects" to resign and polite to the nominees that never should have been. Then he talks tough to the cameras, telegraphs punches that never land in the committees.

Should tell him that Mukasey sank his own ship, no fault of Schumer. No one knew which side of the law fence he would come down on. Now we know as one might very well predict for a necessary stooge protector position, Mukasey will side with Bush. the day that Schumer or most of his colleagues can wrap their minds around the fact that Bush will advance no Souters then they will prepare themselves better to pare down the pack of applicants until you get someone Bush has at least to sweat about. I swear these professional politicians actually believe that this is a fair legitimate process in itself unless some huge scandal threatens its orderly acceptance. But not necessarily derails it. The wannabe Bush cronies are supposed to be too law-abiding and American not to withdraw or state their allegiance to the law.

If you don't know they have been thoroughly vetted by the Bushies, with reasons vital to their respective necks, then you shouldn't be in DC playing these parlor games. They should be thinking already about raking the next guy over the coals. The WH will probably pick a better and more outright liar. But yes, get rid of Mukasey.

11. it might help if the links worked. Aside from
that, this board is very dynamic and threads often disappear before anyone has a chance to even see them. Perhaps that accounts for so many subjects that seem nothing more than hyperbole. I believe there were quite a few a week or so ago that gave tips on how to get your thread noticed--just mention smoking, obesity, Nader, or similar flame bait in the title and you are guaranteed to get noticed--although not necessarily for the dialog you seem to be desiring.

Also, it may be helpful to write thoughtful responses to existing hreads rather than starting your own right away.

anyway, welcome to DU!! and I like your name.
