Debate on Cheney Impeachment Averted

Actually, in the print version, the headline read “House averts an awkward Cheney debate.”

“Awkward”? In the headline? Gee, too bad journalism is so unfashionable these days. Press are free to editorialize whenever and wherever they please.

-- “House Democrats on Tuesday narrowly managed to avert a bruising debate on a proposal to impeach Dick Cheney after Republicans, in a surprise maneuver, voted in favor of taking up the measure.”

“Bruising”?

-- “Republicans, changing course midway through a vote, tried to force Democrats into a debate on the resolution sponsored by longshot presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich.”

“Longshot”?

-- “The anti-war Ohio Democrat, in his resolution, accused Cheney of purposely leading the country into war against Iraq and manipulating intelligence about Iraq's ties with al-Qaida.”

The ”anti-war congressman” (as it read in print)? “Long shot candidate,” “anti-war congressman”…. fast and loose with the dismissive terms and NEVERMIND that the “accusations” are TRUE or that he was prepared – with documentation – for a floor debate.

-- “The GOP tactics reversed what had been expected to be an overwhelming vote to table, or kill, the resolution.”

Yep, the play by play was all worked out ahead of time ………

<snip>

-- “The White House, in a statement, said Democrats were shirking responsibilities on issues such as childrens' health insurance "and yet they find time to waste an afternoon on an impeachment vote against the vice president. ... This is why Americans shake their head in wonder about the priorities of this Congress."

No, actually “why Americans shake their head in wonder about the priorities of this Congress” is the continuation of this war, the continuation of this administration and the creation of an imperial (anti-) American Unitary Executive.

10. You know something......
At this point I don't care if we don't get enough votes to impeach cheney. I would just like to see the whole damn stinking mess that cheney has helped bush create be brought to the light of day.

I hope it drags on and on and each and every piece of evidence is examined and re-examined. Because the republican press does not report to the public just what bush and cheney have really done, all the corruption, all the dumb ass quacks they have put into the government and most of all what they have allowed the FEC do to the press.

Wouldn't you just love for all the information to get out. I really don't think any of the republicans would have a snow balls chance in hell to win election or re-election if all the evidence is brought out.

So maybe the republicans really did them selves a dis-service when they voted to bring the impeachment on. Whether cheney is impeached or not...we have the satisfaction of letting the public know just what they have done.
