'Let me convert you', Army sergeant told lesbian soldier

A lesbian soldier told yesterday how she was pestered for sex by a male sergeant.

Lance Bombardier Kerry Fletcher, 31, said the sergeant boasted in one text message: "Look I might be able to convert you. You don't know what you are missing."

When she refused his advances, she became the victim of a harassment campaign, an employment tribunal heard. Her car was vandalised, she was belittled at work, and she received a number of sinister phone calls.

Miss Fletcher, an accomplished horsewoman who took part in the prestigious Trooping the Colour ceremony and served with distinction in Bosnia, claims the sergeant and other male colleagues tried to destroy her career and health because she was a lesbian.

Crap like this is amazing in the 21st Century, that there are still idiots out there who think they can "convert" gay people into becoming straight....a preposterous notion, that a gay man can be "converted" to becoming straight by having boobs pushed in his face, and that a gay woman can be "converted" to becoming straight by being confronted with a dick.

I met a couple girls that were being kicked out for being lesbians actually, although they never admitted whether they were or not to me. I wondered at the time how a charge like that would be proven against one woman and not the many others I'd met. There is essentially one predominantly gay/lesbian bar in the city and many soldiers go there on a regular basis, without much fear of being discovered it seems. I wonder how many good female soldiers have actually been kicked out, gay or straight, because they refused the advances of a jerk like this Sergeant?
