3. This is just the very beginning of acknowledging the trouble we are in...
Bernanke is trying to 'keep the plates spinning' in hopes that the economy will recover enough to avoid a total collapse BEFORE people find out how bad things really are.

Until there is a full and public disclosure of total losses being carried by major financial institutions there is no way to make a valid assessment of where we are and what is likely to happen in the next year.
