Lee Jones to host Nobel concert
08/11/2007 12:01 - (SA)

Oslo - Hollywood actor Tommy Lee Jones, who was former US vice president Al Gore's roommate at Harvard, will co-host the traditional Nobel concert in December honouring the Nobel Peace Prize laureates, organisers said on Wednesday.

This year's prestigious prize went to Gore and the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The concert, held in Oslo on December 11, the day after the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, will feature artists such as Annie Lennox, Alicia Keys, Melissa Etheridge, and Earth, Wind and Fire.

Jones will host the event with another yet-to-be confirmed artist.

"The Nobel Committee is thrilled that Mr Jones will join us for the Nobel Peace Prize Concert," the head of the Nobel committee Geir Lundestad said in a statement.

"Mr Jones is universally respected and will be a wonderful ambassador for peace," he added.

Jones, 61, has played tough guys with a heart in films such as The Fugitive and Men in Black, but is also known for his roles as the bad guy in Blown Away and Batman Forever.

According to a biography released by the Nobel Institute, Jones shared a dorm room with Al Gore when the two studied at Harvard University.

3. Good for Tommy Lee! I
remember him on tv during the 2000 race..talking about Gore. They always had the truth on their side and now it is coming to fruition and not hidden away by the corporatemediawhores, the extreme 5, and Florida's deranged criminals.

4. It's going to be an emotional two days

To see pictures of Mr. Gore actually receiving the medal and then the concert will be very emotional after us following the events of his life. On NBC this week when asked if receiving this prize was vindication, he answered it was not about him but about how he can now use the prize to further the cause of addressing climate change. This is the reason why I love and respect him so much... he never takes his eye off the real prize. It's only fitting that one of his best friends will be hosting this event.

8. yes, in their zeal to make it about him...
To not have to report the facts. I;m hoping the concert will be on a station in this country. I read that was in the works. Would be great if CURRENT would show it.

13. If you haven't seen "In the Valley of Elah", go see it SOON!!
The movie, starring Tommie Lee Jones, Charlize Theron and Susan Sarandon, is the best movie I have seen in five years (and I see about 70/year). The movie ends 180 degrees from where it starts and takes the entire two hours for the slow turn toward revealing the true and lasting horror of Iraq.

Take every military-age person you know who might even be contemplating joining the Armed Forces.

Take them and their parents.
