Toys linked to a date-rape drug recalled

405,000 toys on latest lead recall list

WASHINGTON - A mother said Thursday she knew something was terribly wrong when her 20-month-old son began to stumble and started vomiting. He had just ingested a popular toy that contains a chemical that turns into a powerful “date rape” drug when eaten.

It was the latest Chinese-made toy pulled from shelves in North America.

Shelby Esses, 30, said her son Jacob fell and went limp after getting into his older sister’s Aqua Dots set, which was recalled Wednesday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

“That’s when we knew what he had eaten and that things were pretty bad,” she told ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

2. Sadly, if the US were to halt imports from China....
China will carry through with their threat to exchange their billions of US dollars for Euros, etc, and the government knows this. This one of the reprecussions of the US debt, imo.

14. More toy corporations than Mattel are having to recall toys made in
China so it would go beyond Mattel even if it were restricted to toys. I agree they should ban toy imports until it's fixed but it's not going to happen for the reasons I stated in my previous post, imo.

5. This govt. does not care about children AT ALL!
Children are a problem.

They cause parents to miss work because of their numerous illnesses. Or the need for someone to take care of them on a daily basis.

They increase medical insurance costs.

They can't vote.

Their education costs this country a lot of money; money that could be used to fleece the pockets of corporations who sell "consumer products".

They cause welfare dollars to increase. (You know, they eat!)

Mothers wouldn't have to go on welfare if they didn't have kids. They could support themselves with 2 or 3 jobs. (And pay taxes on those earnings!)

This govt. doesn't realize that today's kids are tomorrows taxpayers.
They are too short-sighted, selfish & ignorant to appreciate that fact.

I'm beginning to hate this country because of the way it treats it's young & it's elderly.

10. Because children are---wait for it---PEOPLE. And our PSYCHOPATHS in the WH hate people!
Just think of the world they are leaving to their own children and grand-children.

6. We don't need the government to halt imports for us. We all have eyeballs
and presumably brains to process the information from them.

Read your labels. If they say Made in China, put whatever it is back on the shelf. Be a RESPONSIBLE PARENT.

I bought a bath set (tumbler, toothbrush holder, soap dish) the other day and wanted one that was not from China and couldn't find one, so I chose the least-offensive one: recycled glass, NO metal or plastic parts. If there had been any NOT made in China I would have picked that.

Toys are TOO IMPORTANT. Our children are TOO IMPORTANT to be buying plastic junk with contaminants. If I had kids I would now assume that ALL kids' stuff from China was dangerous.

9. Notice how CNN always refers to the recalls as from "Communist China?"
ahem - I believe it's "capitalist China" that's creating these problems.

12. Well, if US corporate and political figures were trying to change China for the better,
Edited on Thu Nov-08-07 07:28 PM by HypnoToad
did it work?

I don't mind giving a person a fair break, but China has really abused a lot and then spit on us for helping them build their economy. (The US was the largest economy until we started helping the rest of the world improve and advance.)

Mind you, the MPAA, RIAA, BSA, and other conglomerates still want to give China rewards for piracy (e.g. selling legit goods at near-competitive prices while they charge the usual rates for law abiding citizens who otherwise complain about costs, I could wander on this tangent and into tangents from that tangent for some time...)
