1. Done
Currently:

Yes 37% 8509
No 63% 14262

The "no" needs to be more like 90%.

5. I can't believe 38% are willing to give up their freedoms
for a little fake security. But don't you like how the right wing cloaks our freedoms with the word privacy? It's not freedom you are giving up, merely a little privacy. You know, like you have when you go to the bathroom. Just a little privacy in exchange for some fake security. It is fake after all since the bushes had over 56 warning about 9/11 and did nothing. What makes anyone think that if they were spying on US citizens and had 100 or 200 warnings of an attack they would do anything?

7. the way they phrase questions is aggravating
Edited on Mon Nov-12-07 07:43 AM by ixion
really... :grr:

This question, in particular, ignores what has happened over the past several years regarding civil liberties and privacy in particular and biases the question under the frame of "terror", which is bogus.

10. I hear you.

The mere nature of the question implies that you can have one or the other, not both. How about a third option? Such as, "I don't think me giving up my privacy has jack shit to do with fighting terrorism."

12. Like Ben Franklin said...
Anyone who trades liberty for security deserves neither liberty nor security.

14. He also said "a penny saved is a penny earned."
Pity he owned slaves; that's how he earned saved his pennies. ;)

16. true...however
After Franklin returned from France in 1785, he joined and eventually became president of an abolitionist group founded a decade earlier by the Pennsylvania Quakers. The group was called the Society for Promoting the Abolition of Slavery and the Relief of Negroes Unlawfully Held in Bondage. Franklin was convinced that not only the slave trade, but slavery itself should be eliminated. He eventually freed his own two slaves.

17. The quote refers to
essential liberty traded for temporary security. Those two qualifiers are extremely important because liberty must be traded for security to some degree.

13. I voted for privacy and it's still 63%. But the headline
is disturbing and probably deserves another thread. (Sorry for the the non se-quoter.) 10 ships sink near the Black Sea!? I think the impact of global warming is more prevalent that ever. :dem:

18. Ugh. I'm conflicted but must go with "Yes".
Privacy must be given up for security. The important question is to what degree. I'm conflicted because I assume that the author of the poll meant more privacy as opposed to any privacy. But in the interest of encouraging proper wording, especially when it matters, I voted according to a strict textual interpretation.
