Sirota: Hillary Clinton Thinks Iowans Are Stupid
From David Sirota's latest newsletter.

Hillary Clinton Thinks Iowans Are Stupid

By David Sirota
Credo Action, 11/12/07

Hillary Clinton thinks Iowans are stupid - very stupid. Here's what I'm talking about.

TODAY:
"Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton says she wants to take a close look at foreign trade deals. She says she'll call a 'time out' on trade agreement if she wins the White House to see if the deals are draining jobs from the U.S.Clinton, who spoke to a regional conference of the United Auto Workers in Dubuque today, says she'll do everything she can to 'move toward smart trade.'" - Associated Press, 11/12/07

FOUR DAYS AGO:
"Clinton Says Yes to Peru Deal...Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, after prodding from a rival campaign, has issued positions on several trade deals currently before Congress, including her support for an agreement with Peru that is dividing her party." - New York Times, 11/8/07

As I said, Hillary Clinton clearly thinks Iowans are stupid.

This is a typical Republican strategy. To have a 'study' instead of taking action on a very serious issue (that their campaign contributors are staunchly against).

13. Another twisted smear against Hillary
First off, Hillary did not make a decision "after prodding from a rival campaign." She's scheduled to vote on the Peru deal and announced her decision two full weeks in advance of the vote.

There are currently four trade deals under consideration. Hillary decided to vote against three, which would constitute way over 3/4th of the trade involved. Hillary only voted for the Peru deal, which makes up a tiny fraction of US trade, when she received assurances workers rights and the environment would be protected. The Peru deal is not going to drain US jobs.

Sirota's missile, "Hillary must think Iowans are stupid" is pure slime. The Hillary haters will stoop to any level, no matter how low. There is nothing inconsistent between Hillary's promise and the action she just took. Sirota chopped the New York Times piece to mislead his readers into thinking there was.

The DLCers who have been pushing this Peru deal have been claiming that it's designed to set the standard for protecting workers and the environment in a whole new generation of trade deals. Both sides agree that this one is the Big Kahuna. Your other three deals don’t mean squat.

The first problem is that this supposedly "generational" standard setting deal is being worked out under a Republican administration rather than waiting 18 months - Bigger problem is that the "standards" this sets are complete BS. Please read this list of critical amendments removed from the bill by our very own Dem leadership:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=2227016

Really, read it.

You say "The Peru deal is not going to drain US jobs." Bullshit. Total Bullshit.

Hillary is a corporate shill.

I am not sure which dem I like best, but Hillary Clinton is not a DINO. She has always been more liberal than Bill, and liberal though I am, I love Bill Clinton. There is a man who truly cares about his fellow man. Was he always right as pres? Of course not, but are we? Hillary or any of her dem challengers will be a fine president. Any of the Pugs will just continue the decline we so richly deserve after allowing 8 years of W. They are a paltry group.

Senator Clinton's Remarks to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC)

I am so honored to be here and once again to speak on behalf of the causes and concerns that we share. And there is no doubt that AIPAC is at the forefront of efforts to advocate on behalf of Israel. And on behalf of the shared interests and security and democracy that form the unbreakable bond between our two nations.

<snip>

U.S. policy must be clear and unequivocal. We cannot, we should not, we must not, permit Iran to build or acquire nuclear weapons. And in dealing with this threat as I have said for a very long time, no option can be taken off the table.

But Iran is a threat not only because of the hateful rhetoric spewed by its president, not only because of its nuclear ambitions, but because it uses its influence and its revenues in the region to support terrorist elements that are attacking innocent Israelis; and now we believe attacking American soldiers. Hezbollah's attacks on Israel this summer using Iranian weapons clearly demonstrate Iran's malevolent influence even beyond its borders.

.... she sounds just like cheney!

Do you even know what pure hatred is? You must be a very sheltered, privileged person to compare one critical post on your candidate to something like this:

Or this:

You might want to consider toning it down a bit if you want us to take you seriously.

It was meant to express my disbelief on how you could possibly characterize such mild criticism as "pure hate". The fact that you then admitted that "pure hate" applies to people like Adolph Hitler just shows how ridiculous your original response was.

45. Re: Help turn Hillary back
Greetings from Iowa!

If every DUer who posts here would write a letter to the editor of an Iowa paper, like the Quad City Times, Dubuque Telegraph Herald, Sioux City Journal, Cedar Rapids Gazette, hell even the Des Moines Register . . . in 200 words or less . . . address undecided Iowa Democrats (and there are a bunch of them) and tell them why they need to caucus for John or Obama or Bill or Joe or Chris. It would take you the same amount of time to email a letter to the editor that it takes to post here, AND you will be writing to persuade people who may not be on the Internet, but do caucus. Iowa has the highest newspaper readership per capita in the nation. We know our job is not to pick the next president, but to narrow the field from the pretenders to the contenders.

I'm supporting John Edwards, but I would welcome your letters to the editor reminding my fellow Iowans what is on the line and why Hillary is not the answer. Push the "send" button instead of the "post message" button for a few weeks. I promise Iowans will read your letters and factor your input into our decision on caucus night, Thursday, January 3rd.
