Texas Mayors Want to Widen Rio Grande

The Brownsville and Laredo projects involve digging out the river bank on the U.S. side to triple the river's width to up to 500 feet and deepening the river from 2 feet

to about 10 feet at its shallowest, and up to 24 feet in the deepest sections.

By constructing a series of low dams, or weirs, at different parts of the river, water would gradually back up behind them and fill the widened river channel, engineers say.

1. So are they trying to drown potential illegal immigrants now
rather than just put up a fence? Even if told how deep and wide the river is they would try it anyway you know. Heck, I'm surprised they aren't putting pirana into the river and probably would if it didn't pose a danger to existing fish and wildlife in and around the river.

5. Dumb bastards failed to notice the river is nearly dry...ALL THE TIME!
Folks, this is a Texas story, you can reasonably assume that no intelligent nor rational thoughts went into its making. The Rio Grand, has been a mere trickle for many, many years now except for some very brief periods during tropical monsoons or extreme snowpacks up in the Rockies. Widening the river would only make such that even small children could cross and not wet their ankles.

...and I live in the midst of this....surrounded by AGGIES! arrrrrghhh!

6. I was in El Paso last year and the river was completely dry then
We walked over the bridge to Juarez and all that was in the river bed was trash. I think the river gets bigger further south when a river from Mexico joins it though.

9. Could you possibly squeeze down on the leakage of 'aggies' which seems to be
terminating up here in North Texas? Thanks.
:P
