Looks like Obama is trying to address negatives and get them behind him. ANd doing it on his own terms.

Of course, sometimes you have to address them over and over to keep the negatives by naysayers from popping up claiming something new.

His use of alcohol, marijuana and cocaine are not new revelations for those who read or are aware of his book --"Dreams from My Father."

But these incidents will arise time and again throughout the General Election if he is the Nominee.

But IMHO I think this is the right way to handle it.

2. Bush's deficiencies go much deeper than just his alleged drug usage.

5. You are only half right on that one...
It is true that Obama couldn't have been worse than Bush, but you are wrong when you suggest that Bush got elected.

3. Obama's candor about his past will win him points
as opposed to the POS currently squatting at 1600 who refuses to face up to what he did when he was "young and irresponsible." In light of all the BS we've suffered over the past almost 8 years, I don't see admitting this stuff as having much of a downside.

6. Well many Republicans including Bush have used drugs as well...
As did many millions of Americans. In fact I would venture to say a majority of Americans have used drugs at one point or another. I know the polls don't show that, but I don't believe people are always honest when a pollster asks them whether or not they have used drugs. If the Republicans want to attack Obama for using drugs decades ago they can go right ahead, I think most Americans will see through it.

I am not even an Obama supporter, but I would certainly be more than willing to stand up for him if his opponents were to attack him over something so trivial.

How many people do you know that are rotting in jail for simply doing drugs .Remember Linsey Lohan."hey dad the president did drugs,i will be OK"They still bring up i didnot inhale.Even George was smart enough to never admit it.

8. George smart? Not quite, George is a liar is more accurate.
They bring up "I did not inhale" because it is so patently ridiculous. You either admit you have done drugs or you don't admit it, but saying you smoked pot but didn't inhale it makes you look ridiculous to just about everyone. Gore smoked pot and he got elected, even if he wasn't allowed to take office admitting to his past drug use was not frowned upon by too many people. I heard many more people go after Bush because everyone knew he did it, but he refused to fess up. Gore admitted it and the issue was pretty much dropped, it probably actually gave him more votes than it cost him.
