White House seeks to slash anti-terror funds
Homeland Security grants may be cut by more than half, documents show

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration intends to slash counterterrorism funding for police, firefighters and rescue departments across the country by more than half next year, according to budget documents obtained by The Associated Press.

The Homeland Security Department has given $23 billion to states and local communities to fight terrorism since the Sept. 11 attacks, but the administration is not convinced that the money has been well spent and thinks the nation’s highest-risk cities have largely satisfied their security needs.

The department wanted to provide $3.2 billion to help states and cities protect against terrorist attacks in 2009, but the White House said it would ask Congress for less than half — $1.4 billion, according to a Nov. 26 document.

1. The way I see it, one of two things is going on...
The "terror threat' isn't anything more than a "Be afraid, be very afraid" campiagn, like we've been saying all along.

OR

When the "next big attack" occurs just as we're going to the polls, and DUH-bya becomes King, the Dems will be blamed for "gutting the coffers" by denying the chimp more war funds. He'll save us right at the last minute.

Either way, it stinks.

2. I'll take Door Number 3.
AQ would never have gotten close enough to US aircraft had it not been for the as yet unexplained command failure of the Bush-Cheney Administration.

DHS never broke up a legitimate terrorist cell, afterwards. Not one.

One thing is certain - we've created our own enemies. Lots of them. We'll have to live or die or deal with that fact. So, we're stuck with something like a terrorist threat for a long time to come.

3. "As yet unrexplained" is certainly generous!
I'm of the CRAZY group who believes the alleged "attack" was an inside job.

5. Not crazy. Just not yet proven in a court of law
beyond a reasonable doubt. Questions of criminal intent should be proven by trial.

I think a trial would be only fair, in their case, don't you? :patriot: :hide: :+ :dunce: :hide: :patriot: :yoiks:

4. ...but the administration is not convinced that the money has been well spent
I guess there just isn't enough terrorist activity on the home front like they expected after 911. :sarcasm:(?)
