Montel Williams: "I'm a big star, I can look you up, find where you live and blow you up"
Reporters Say Were Threatened by Montel

December 1, 2007 10:10 AM EST | AP

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20071201/people-montel-williams/

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Talk show host Montel Williams has apologized for an angry confrontation with reporters who said he threatened them. Williams - in Savannah to promote a program giving free prescriptions to low-income people - became upset with a reporter's question Friday and terminated an interview.

When the Savannah Morning-News reporters later returned to the hotel for an unrelated assignment, he approached one of them - high school student Courtney Scott, an intern at the newspaper.

"As we were preparing to film, Montel walked up with his bodyguard and got in Courtney Scott's face pointing his finger telling her 'Don't look at me like that. Do you know who I am? I'm a big star, and I can look you up, find where you live and blow you up,'" said Joseph Cosey, a web content producer for the newspaper. "At this time he was randomly pointing at all of us."

Scott said she wasn't sure how to interpret Williams' comment. "I'm not sure if he meant 'blow me up' and ruin my career or really blow us up, but it was threatening," Scott said.

1. So, Montel knows how to use the Internet?
Anyone can "look you up, find where you live," pretty much.

Williams made the announcement at a news conference in Manhattan on Monday along with his personal
physician, Dr. Michael Olek, who recently confirmed the diagnosis in an examination.

Williams says he doesn't know how long he has had it, but said he has been misdiagnosed for 10 years.

Not excusing what he said but it sounds out of character to me.
Perhaps he was being badgered? I don't know. Perhaps he was exhausted?

24. I don't really care if he was badgered and as for the MS,
that's too bad, but it doesn't excuse the behavior. He's got plenty of money and the entire pharmaceutical industry at his disposal. He should be in touch with his symptoms and deal with them in a better way than threatening to blow up girls in high school.

It's a fact. At least he did apologize for over reacting,.

I don't know if he knew this reporter was in high school.

She cut her teeth of reporting experience on this though!

29. My ex's uncle attacked me verbally, from his MS wheelchair
and I was told it was way out of character for him also. I was around 21 yrs old at the time

and very upset about it but learned that it was his MS talking. MS effects people in different ways.

I think this outburst is out of character for Mr. Williams and he has apologized.

37. It did freak me out...it was at a family dinner
and I was newly married (just over a year) and had just had a baby and he tore into my being raised Catholic
and berated me until I left, despite my husband and the uncle's wife pleading with me to stay. I was already
a basketcase being a new Mom with a colicky baby and away from home and then that happened... Gheesh!
But I was young and knew nothing about MS at all and barely knew him. I survived it though. ;)

Monday, July 23, 2007

Washington, D.C. - In just over two years, the Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA) has connected four million individuals who are uninsured or lack adequate healthcare coverage to programs that provide prescription medicines for free or nearly free. The PPA -- sponsored by America's pharmaceutical research companies -- is the largest private-sector patient assistance effort helping low-income, uninsured and underinsured people obtain their medicines through more than 475 public and private patient assistance programs, including 180 programs offered by pharmaceutical companies. More than 2,500 brand-name and generic prescription medicines are available through the participating programs.

Cora Simpson, of Lexington, Kentucky, became the four millionth person helped by the Partnership for Prescription Assistance. The milestone was marked by a visit to Lexington by the program's national spokesman, TV talk show host Montel Williams. Simpson, a paraplegic as a result of a gunshot wound she suffered years ago, said she learned about the program while watching television. Simpson takes four medicines a day, and found nearly 10 programs through the PPA that could potentially help.

that whole promotion is a scam by the pharmaceuticals industry. So "kind" of the pharmas to offer their over priced drugs to all the poor people, after those people have practically promised them their first born to get the stuff. x(

That's the funniest line I've heard in months .. I've been in all sorts of bar brawls in my life, have been subject to and hurled insults with the Best, and have never heard that line, fucking Hilarious :)

And here I thought I was headed for a DUzy on the KKKarl Rove thread, where I said "if I owned a dog as Ugly as KKKarl Rove, I'd Shave its Ass and Teach it to Walk BACKWARDS..."

But I've got to admit you've aced me out of it :)

Sure you don't want WhatsHisFace to SHAVE that silly RIM of whiskers off First? I know that my 3 year old son complains about whisker burns on his baby skin..

I'm still laughing over here, and that doesn't happen very often, and with chapped lips too :)

35. I'm not at all certain that I can "take credit" for that expression.
I can never quite remember if I actually HEARD it somewhere in the mid-90's,
or if I just DREAMED that I did.

But I do know that it's a GOOD one, potent and effective...
so I save it for special occasions, and only fire it off
about once every other year.

20. Montel Williams Apologizes for Threatening Reporter
Montel Williams Apologizes for Threatening Reporter

http://www.transworldnews.com/NewsStory.aspx?id=29480&cat=2

Atlanta, Ga. 12/02/2007 12:10 AM GMT (FINDITT)

Montel Williams issued an apology for his confrontation with reporters on Friday night and for
threatening a high school student, telling her he could “find where you live and blow you up.”

The television talk show host had been in the Georgia coastal town of Savannah conducting an
interview on providing prescription drugs for low-income people when he became agitated with a
question posed by a Savannah Morning-News intern.

Courtney Scott, a high school intern at the paper, asked Williams if he believed pharmaceutical
companies would curb research and development if their profits were cut. Williams responded;
"I'm trying to figure out exactly why you are here and what the interview is about. I'm here as
a patient advocate talking about the fact that medications available today are saving people's
lives, that's what's saving mine and after that, this interview is done.”

Later that evening Williams returned to his hotel and saw the reporters from the paper. Still
upset about the earlier interview, Williams approached Scott and said “Don't look at me like that.
Do you know who I am? I'm a big star, and I can look you up, find where you live and blow you up.”

After the incident Williams apologized, issuing a statement that said “I mistakenly thought the
reporter and photographer in question were at the hotel to confront me about some earlier comments,
I was wrong, and I apologize for my overreaction.”

--------

At least he apologized.
