Imus returns to airwaves
Imus returns to airwaves after firing over comments about Rutgers women's basketball players

Will Don Imus be defiant or contrite? Will he mock his skeptics while making his triumphant return to radio Monday.

Or will he muzzle his mouth?

"That question is part of the drama of his reemergence," said Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers magazine, an industry trade journal. "Imus faces some choices."

Imus isn't talking, yet, but it's safe to say radio's best-known curmudgeon will have lots to say when his show kicks off at 6 a.m. EST Monday on WABC-AM and other Citadel Broadcasting Corp. stations around the country, ending his nearly eight-month banishment from the air.

The morning show will be simulcast on cable's RFD-TV, owned by the Rural Media Group Inc., and rebroadcast on radio in the evenings.

Will Imus succeed in his comeback?

1. He's Just A New York Show Now
This isn't the Imus who left WFAN and a network of dozens of stations and a TV gig on MSNBC. The "new" Imus will be a local New York radio show again with few affiliates outside of New York City and virtually no cable visibility. After the initial promotional period, Imus will need to bring home the bacon for his new masters, Citadel...a company that already hasn't felt it was worth putting Imus on any of their other major radio signals.

While I have little good to say about what come out of Imus' piehole, I also realize he remains very popular in New York and that he knowns how lucky he is to have yet another chance. The good thing is he didn't bring Bernard McGuirk with him.

2. I think this is great....i just hope my not-so-good car radio can pick up the station for my morning
commute. I've missed Imus and his guests. I hope he's going to have the same format....this is a free country and we DO still have the 1st amendment.

I hope he starts out by discussing *'s visit to the privately developed Veteran's medical facility that Imus halped get built by being the driving force for fund raising.

I never listen/watch scarborough after the 1st day or 2......that show is so boring and biased.

4. Carville to be (first) guest on new Imus show
NEW YORK, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- U.S. Democratic strategist James Carville says he will be a guest on the first airing of Don Imus' new radio show, USA Today reported Thursday.

<snip>

While Carville, a frequent guest on Imus' previous show, has said he will appear on the new program, other regulars, such as "Meet the Press" host Tim Russert and CBS' Jeff Greenfield, aren't discussing whether or not they intend to be guests on the new show.

5. I certainly do NOT always agree with Imus
But at least when I disagree with him, I can shake my fist at the radio and bellow at him for being WRONG, as opposed to being STUPID.

I didn't have much patience for the moronic schtick, but I did find the dialogue to be substantive. MSNBC fucked up when they fired him. BIG TIME.

I'll be listening. I hope he has a good format, and gets good guests as well.

ABC Radio Networks has snagged its first big affiliate for Imus in the Morning. WTKK-FM, Greater Media’s Talk station in Boston will clear the show beginning Dec. 3, the day Imus returns to the radio airwaves, the station announced Friday. It’s a homecoming for Don Imus, which aired on the station up until CBS Radio fired him in April.

With WTKK, Imus in the Morning will clear two of the top 10 markets. The show originates from WABC-AM, Citadel Broadcasting’s Talk station in New York.

“We welcome Don Imus back to WTKK and look forward to his high-profile interviews and incisive political commentary as we enter a very competitive election year,” said Phil Redo, vp and market manager for Greater Media in Boston. “We have talked to Don about what happened last April, and we know that he is truly sorry for what he said. We believe his new show will be an open and inclusive forum for discussion of issues that are important to the communities in which he broadcasts.”

The slot opened up for Imus when Greater Media failed to sign Howie Carr from WRKO-AM, owned by Entercom Communications. Carr had been trying since July to exit his contract with WRKO, but a legal ruling kept him from exiting. Rather than go unemployed for five years, Carr returned to WRKO on Friday.

18. Well, Ron Kuby supported his return, too, and didn't feel he should have been fired in the first
place.

If he's all that good (and, nice guy, but he bored the shit out of me) he'll find work.

People aren't "owed" a living in radio. It's a tough business. You sink or swim.

6. Bad news. WABC fired its only progressive talk-jock, Ron Kuby,
who regularly whupped Imus in the head-to- head NY ratings, to make room for this ham sandwich.

8. One particular morning sticks in my mind
A female employee was on camera with him. She had committed the horrendous sin of "disobeying" him. I was horrified to hear how he tore her apart in front of the viewing audience. I have never seen anything like it. A couple of other times I heard him speak of other employees (fortunately those subjects identities weren't divulged). I sense that he enjoys being a position where he can get away with demeaning people who depend on him for a livelihood. I've experienced similar treatment and I know what it can do. Any show with this type of person hosting will not get my viewership.

It was time for him to go. Thank you for sharing your experience.

16. I agree completely
I enjoyed about one interview a week. But the rest of his show was just a bunch of sexist racist white guys having idiotic conversations. It completely blows my mind that anyone with progressive values would be an Imus fan.

19. I'm one of those so-called progressives you are sniping about.
And I disagree with his inappropriate comments, and have written to complain about them.

However, I also understand that the reason he pulls that shit is because, once upon a time in a stupider world, that was considered "humorous." That fool Stern continues to do that kind of crap, only his targets are naked women, midgets, and the mentally challenged.

I pick through the crap for the gems. And the political discourse on his show was excellent. It was certainly ten levels above the bullshit you get on that Morning Joe joke of a show.

Here's a suggestion you might want to take--don't listen to him. If he causes you angst, avoid him at all costs. After all, it's a free country.

If you thought Al was working there you might be confused, I suppose. But he'd have to quit his day job.

I'm glad he is making a comeback. He was just doing what the network wanted him to do, they're the ones who should have gone down for it.
