dictator (plural dictators)
1. Originally, a magistrate without colleague in republican ancient Rome, who held full executive authority for a term grated by the senate (legislature), typically to conduct a war
2. A totalitarian leader of a dictatorship. They wield absolute authority, usually to the detriment of the people (evil dictator), however, there are cases (such as benevolent dictators) where they are beneficial.
3. A tyrannical boss
4. A person who dictates text (e.g. letters to a clerk)
He has granted himself, nay,
stolen full executive authority under the Unitary Executive theory espoused by John Yoo and others. He has ignored the will of the people by announcing his intention to re-interpret or ignore entirely the laws passed by elected representatives. He has ignored subpoenas, stymied investigations, fired scientists who promote science instead of dogma, and defended the totalitarian acts of rendition, torture, and the suspension of habeas corpus. He has implemented domestic wiretapping and profiling. He has knowingly led the nation into war despite intelligence that directly conflicted with the very justification for that war. He is threatening to do precisely the same thing with respect to Iran, again, despite the evidence, and despite the majority of Americans who object.
Oh, and he may even dictate text on occasion, although you really have to feel for whomever is tasked with deciphering a continuous flow of Bushisms.
