Anyone notice on Ellen how Jenna Bush - in a very sheepish voice - asks dad (*) if he's mad at her?
Edited on Wed Dec-05-07 09:08 PM by Harper_is_Bush
Check out the video here:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/12/05/jenna-bush-phones-home-on_n_75406.html

At 1:45 in the video Jenna, while picking nervously at the couch, says "Dad? (shrub answers "yes baby?") Are you mad?"

When Jenna asked him that, she was being serious. How old is that woman? She fears her fathers dissapproval, that is very obvious.

I don't fault her for that. Many girls/women are f'd up when it comes to their parents. What interests me is the insight this provides into shrub. He's clearly a person who lords himself over the women in his life to the point that they fear his responses.

There would be another. (A reference to Stalin's threat to Lenin's widow.)

like his real response would be, what the hell did you do now, or what in hell do you want? I can hear him saying that.

25. exactly, you hit the nail on the head
* has a definite anger management problem, why would his daughter ask right off if he was mad at her, what a dysfunctional family.
There are quite the number of things we don't know about this family, to me it is all an act to be the "a caring and loving family" what total BS.

There are bigger fish to fry than a daughter calling her dad for a PR stunt.

11. WTF! I thought it was sweet.
OMFG. I have the same reverence for my mother as she has for her parents. She was uncomfortable being called on the spot in front of a live audience. She'd admitted "I can call them any time," and had her bluff called. Had she been backstage in the dressing room and Ellen asked the same question I'm sure she wouldn't have been so concerned about how her parents reacted.

16. I thought it was sweet also! She's a very sweet girl.
But how old is she? She's well into her 20's, the time for sheepishly asking dad if he's mad (especially in public) is over.

As I posted since though, I think the whole thing was a setup, so her question was perhaps disingenuous anyway.

Fool me once.......

I'm in my mid 30's and I still act sheepishly around my mom sometimes. Guess old habits are hard to break.

36. You are very, very naive.
For chrissake, she glances over at the "hidden" telephone when she says she can call at any time! And then Laura mentions that she isn't watching because they're only taping -- but Jenna hadn't said where she was yet!!

How can you fall for this stuff???

12. You know, on a second watch it almost seems like the whole thing was pre-planned.
I mean, Laura came right out and acknowledged she knew Jenna was taping. Surely * knew the call was coming?

Maybe Jenna should add acting to her resume.

18. Actually, in their defense, it's not surprising that Laura Bush knew where Jenna was
If I'm not mistaking, I believe I read before that in the White House, they have a screen up that shows the location of each member of the First Family (probably for security purposes).

So, it's not surprising that Laura Bush knew where Jenna was.

very interesting video. Jenna does appear to be afraid of
dad's disapproval, then dad seems to lighten up considerably
when he realizes she's calling from the Ellen show. But we
cannot know any of this, we're just speculating.

44. He's pretty obviously shitfaced at many appearances
And ALL of his strange behavior and character quirks can be easily explained by full-blown, active alcoholism. No need to invoke CVAs, Alzheimers, or some of the more complicated psychological theories I've read on this board.

I don't care what the man or his press agents and handlers say, he's still drinking. A lot.

He probably told the twins they can call and talk to him whenever they like but it better be important! And you also noticed she said she was on Ellen's show pretty quick (in case he curses at her). I think they are afraid of him. She did seem nervous.

40. The whole thing was staged.. And the timing was "perfect"
At the very time the media was slamming him for lying about NooQueLur war with Eye-Ran, all of a sudden they switch gears and are cluck-clucking about how she called "Daddy"..and they play it over and over & swoon at what a "tender moment" it all was..

The "girl" is well into her twenties, a rich heiress, a dilettante who had someone write a book under her name.. She's not a cutie little teenybopper anymore..

This was just another ploy to change the subject..and shame on Ellen for being a party to it..
