C.I.A. Agents Sense Shifting Support for Methods - Bullshit Alert
Edited on Wed Dec-12-07 11:28 PM by spanone
who the fuck EVER supported TORTURE???? What tide is turning?

so when they say the 'Justice Department' approved waterboarding, they mean ALBERTO GONZALES.

WASHINGTON — For six years, Central Intelligence Agency officers have worried that someday the tide of post-Sept. 11 opinion would turn, and their harsh treatment of Al Qaeda prisoners would be subjected to hostile scrutiny and possible criminal prosecution.

Now that day may have arrived, after years of shifting legal advice, searing criticism from rights groups — and no new terrorist attacks on American soil.

The Justice Department, which in 2002 gave the C.I.A. legal approval for waterboarding and other tough interrogation methods, is reviewing whether agency officials broke the law by destroying videotapes of those very methods.

The Congressional intelligence committees, whose leaders in 2002 gave at least tacit approval for the tough tactics, have voted in conference to ban all coercive techniques, and they have announced investigations of the destruction of the videotapes and the methods they documented.

2. This piece is slanted against the CIA. The frame is,
they knew they were doing wrong and now, their fears are coming true.

The CIA is full of sadistic criminals, so I don't defend them. That's just the way this piece is written.

3. The Propaganda Organs are in high gear, turning torture into Salvation of the Nation
It is a form of retroactive immunity; just transform public opinion to support torture. Easy enough if you control all the media. The full-court press is indicative of how these crimes reach to "the Decider" and almost every high official in the Junta.

Even NPR tonight quoted the talking CIA agent as saying waterboarding is "an intelligence success story."

4. Gonzales wasn't AG in 2002, Ashcroft was
Gonzales was White House counsel at the time...atr the time, in 2002, Gonzales requested and got a "legal" (coughchokespew) justification for torture from the DOJ (Yoo/Bybee memo)

It's most certainly a don't blame us piece, we were just following orders

bunch of sickos

5. "Harsh Interrogation Methods saved lives."
No proof of that but the US Corp Media is peddling that mantra now.

The RWing spin is that Torture is alright even though it is Illegal because
it produces results & saves lives. Proof? None!
