6. Ah ... I didn't associate the question w/Biden's answer, which I heard
Yes, he apologized for the misunderstanding and explained the immigrant experience. Turned to Obama for affirmation, which struck me.

Dodd was fierce - bringing up his senator father's censure as motive for his run was just a low blow. Biden's question was just silly in retrospect ... but he admitted he spoke bluntly, which was a knick I'm afraid.

11. I agree, that was absolutely ridiculous
I don't recall anyone asking Bush about his grandpa but suddenly Dodd has to clear his family name? WTF?

4. They asked him about some of his racial comments - clean and articulate, 7/11 Indians, etc.
He answered it well and everybody essentially attested to that. Obama said something directly supporting Joe.

They also asked Richardson about Win Ho Lee (sp?), Dodd about his Father's censure, Obama about his using many former Clinton advisers.

5. Joe was asked about the statements he's made in the past
about Indians running the 711's and Obama being clean and well spoken, and if he was uncomfortable talking about race or what?

Joe responded very well! Basically, he explained that the remark about the Indians was similar to what Obama had just said regarding minorities starting out at a disadvantage and that finding so many quick stop stores shows they are coming her and building families and making successful lives. He added that most of his constituents in Del. were minorities and any of the people he's worked with in Congress will all tell you he's always on the right side of minority issues. A vocal round of support from all the others on the stage supported Joe as well.

9. I always felt that Joe Bidenw as searching for the word "preppy" and then
When his mind didn't find it, he substituted "Clean and well spoken" which was taken with so much offense.

Funny how the nuances of speech can bite you in the butt.

10. Ya know, in the case of the Obama case, my guess is that Joe
was showing his age a bit. I happen to be the sme age as Joe, and how well I remember my parents saying a guy my sister would be dating would describe him as clean. Their comment had NOTHING to do with cleanliness at all! They were talking about the guy being neat, well dressed, and well, you know...NOT A HIPPIE! I knew what Joe meant as soon as he said it, and I was honestly surprised when people were making such a big deal over it!

It reminds me of when Tiger Woods made a comment to a reporter that "I was freaking out after that shot!" The media went NUTS! I had to google the word to find out what the hell the big deal was! I had NEVER heard any alternate meaning of that word before that day!!!!

17. I didn't see it, but saw the replay of Obama's defense
which was also quite classy.

8. Everyone was asked a low blow question
Obama was asked about having lots of Clinton people advising on him on foreign policy; Hillary was asked about the health care fiasco when she was 1st lady; Dodd was asked about his father who was censored (I think that's what they said); Richardson was asked about security breaches while he was sec'y of agriculture. It was a good, very fair, debate.

13. And Kucinich was aksed why he didn't bother renting office space??
That was the real low blow.

I don't knowwthether I am more upset over his being excluded (The Republicans had Alan Keyes, who also failed to rent office space)

Or over the fact that his organizational capacity is abysmally low. What IS with that?

14. Kucinich's exclusion was blatantly unfair, imho ...
ESPECIALLY after seeing Alan Keyes make a total ASS of himself as a "professional" candidate who pays himself a sizable salary(!) from campaign donations. Keyes has virtually NO campaign organization in Iowa and even less support than Kooch and they didn't apply the same criterion they "CLAIM" they used regarding Kooch. Detestable.

I think it's the result of the pressure from the other candidates - Keyes made the others on the stage look better in comparison, while Kucinich makes the others on stage look WORSE in comparison.

After all, they get to posture and preen against the mythical 'reality' mirror that ignores their warts and blemishes ... when Kooch isn't calling 'em on it.

"Wouldn't it be better to have a President that gets it right THE FIRST TIME??"
(Who can argue with that without looking like a total ass?)
