Jesus H, everytime it comes on tv, I bawl my eyes out and I start trying to fiugre how I can afford $18 a month. How come it's cheaper to support a Biafran baby?

1. Everytime I hear her voice
I get choked up. She could convince me to donate to most any cause.

As much as I like pets, I think it'd be nice if she was as concerned for the homeless and hungry in the US, the disenfranchised in New Orleans, the Iraqi refugees, victims of Darfur, etc.

You asked, and I'm ducking. :hide:

7. Well, she did do this. . .
Sarah McLachlan’s poignant song and powerful video for ‘World on Fire’ made an artistic statement and benefitted many less-fortunate people. Sarah took the production costs for her video and donated them to worthy causes all around the world, choosing to simply play her guitar and utilize her time on air to showcase how the production money could be spent on charity instead of on a music video.

11. You can be active in multiple causes, you know!
We domesticated dogs and cats--they are absolutely dependent on us, and they suffer mightily when we neglect or abuse them. I volunteer for the Humane Society, and these animals are absolutely DESPERATE for care and love and attention, and they come in with limbs that need to be amputated, fur covered with mats, untreated wounds that smell foul--awful suffering. I don't think it's any less the Lord's work to alleviate this suffering. We were given dominion over the animals, and it doesn't take away from humans to care for them and try to find them homes.

8. I get choked up everytime I see it
the ad just ran on TV here and I got all teary-eyed. I signed up the first time it ran. I was sent a picture of a beautiful orange tabby that I keep out with the pictures of my own.

9. They played this at our Humane Society Volunteer orientation--
About a hundred of us animal lovers in a conference room, all sniffling and wiping eyes, men included.

12. It's a wonderful ad and probably gets a lot of donations
BUT, from those who don't have the money to do both, it pulls donations away from local shelters. A little of that $18/month will find it's way back to your local SPCA but if you give directly, they get it all. And you aren't paying for tv time and ad production.

If you can't do both, visit your local shelter and then make up your mind where you want the money to go. For me, it'll go to the animals I can't bring home and care for...right here in my own back yard.
