Husband Mistakes Wife For Intruder, Kills Her
NATCHEZ, Miss. -- A Natchez man shot and killed his wife when he mistook her for an intruder in their home, according to police.

Police Chief Mike Mullins said Glenn and Deborah Mizell awoke around 4 a.m. Tuesday to the sound of their barking dog. Mullins said Glenn Mizell went to investigate, taking a pistol with him.

Mullins said Glenn Mizell began checking through the house and was unaware his wife had left the bedroom and gone into the kitchen. Mullins said when Mizell saw her figure in the dark, he fired his gun once.

Authorities said he shot Deborah Mizell, 49, once in the chest and died at the scene. Mullins said a preliminary investigation shows the shooting was an accident.

Well, the Darwin Award nominees are off to a flying start for 2008...though I admit I have my suspicions that this was an 'accidental' shooting.

27. It sounds like he is claiming she left the bedroom AFTER he left.
Perhaps she entered the kitchen while he was checking the den????

At best, he's another trigger happy gun-owning asshole........at worst, he's a cold blooded murderer.

4. And, of course, we all believe every word he says.
Because husbands never shoot their wives and make up stories to cover it.

18. Maybe, maybe not
I knew a young man back in Ohio who shot his girlfriend one evening when she came home early from a night out with the girls. He wounded her, but didn't kill her. He had awoken from his sleep when she came in and stupidly over reacted.

My father is a psychologist. He had one patient, a man in his 30's, who had accidentally killed his seven year old son when the boy went downstairs for a snack. He heard the child coming up the stairs and yelled "WHO'S THERE"?, and since the boy was so scared by his father's tone he didn't answer-so the idiot father went ahead and shot blindly down the staircase, instantly killing his son. Sometimes people live in so much fear of "bad guys" that they can't think clearly at all and become the very thing that they fear most.

24. I remember reading a story about a guy who shot himself in the penis....
He awoke in the middle of the night and thought he saw someone at the foot of his bed.

It was in a Mike Royko column. He used to do a "stupid gun owners" bit every once in a while.

This kind of shit happens all the time. That said, the poor guy is screwed even if he is innocent - judging by the DU reaction.

16. It is totally believable that a murderer was lurking outside,
and the husband was wandering a dark house with a gun, that Mrs. Mizell decided to go to the kitchen to get a turkey sandwich.:eyes:

23. there you go. Stop a bullet with a bullet.
what a great idea.

and of course, concealed carry, so popular in the southern states, will only cause this to happen all the more frequently.

25. That sort of thing happens all too often.

Homeowner buys a handgun with honorable intentions of protecting his home and his loved ones.

The dreaded event happens, an intruder during the night. Unfortunately, one of the family

members gets hurt by another family member like we see here or the bad guy hurts someone

usually because he doesn't want to get hurt himself or he doesn't want to go to jail. Or

there might be a fight for the handgun and almost anyone could get hurt, even a baby sleeping

on the other side of the wall. An inexperienced gun owner is a threat to himself and those

around him. I don't know how experienced Mizell may have been but things certainly didn't

turn out in his favor regardless.
