Several DUers have posted asking what to say to a relative thinking of going into the military. Folks should let Cindy Sheehan's (and Elizabeth Weill-Greenberg's) book do the talking.

It's a short paperback - 128 pages, and is only $9 bucks at Amazon.

I loved this one. (Note my bolding)
"I know that I will do my best to honor the lives and the memories of those who have gone before us and taken up arms in order to fight the horrors and the monsters of this world. This is a sad book. While the book doesn't full frontal show objections toward the military, the objections are easily seen and easily understood by those who are not blinded by the Clinton and Al Franken style, more like vomit, of liberalism. That is, only a fool would not realize the very nature, from page to page as I have read through the book, shows a degregation toward the United States military and the government. This is an abominable book. While I admit I myself am not in the military, my family on both father and mother's side has a long standing history with the armed forces. I feel bad that your son died, but, I feel even worse that you don't care to respect the memory of your son who died in a war that we didn't start. A war, if you would recall, that began on 9-11. And the authors of this book all together spit in the faces of every man and woman who has lived and died to protect America from a hostile world, along with the families of those who have lived and died to protect America in a hostile world. You are pitied."

1. What a strange diatribe. Franken has been a major supporter of the troops.

He's traveled with the USO multiple times, including Afghanistan.

4. It is the way it always happens.

The ruling elites take control and run things for their own benefit, and the population at large, not having any common interest with the government any more, loses interest in fighting for it. Then you get the mercenaries, and then you get military autocracy, and things go to hell in a handbasket until some outside force comes along and enslaves everybody.
