Thom Hartmann is insane
I've been listening to this fool for a while now and am convinced that he's a complete loon. Thanks for giving a monster named Jonah Golberg the mic today, Thom, then defending him to subsequent callers.

And Thom's chronic John Adams bashing is completely bizarre. His lack of knowledge of Colonial America and the geopolitics of the late 18th century is vast. Read David McCullogh's book "John Adams," and you'll discover what a fool Hartmann is on this topic. Oh, hey, why doesn't Hartmann, the faux intellectual, have McCullough on? Guess that would be too much for Air America's biggest jackass.

Please, Thom, shut the fuck up. (I just changed the channel)

1. he doesnt defend them, he lets them speak then he rips them a new one
he does however not trash the person after they hangup. it's not too nice to trash people who cannot defend themselves.

I get sick of hearing the Ayn Rand people on there weekly, but he lets them hang themselves by their own words.

He's a freakin genius

I've heard Thom not come across all that well at times on certain issues, or not make his point forcefully enough.

12. It seems to me...
Edited on Tue Jan-15-08 01:13 PM by Red Zelda
that he's got some hard-on for Thomas Jefferson and doesn't realize that without Adams there would have been no independence to start with.

He pillories Adams by referring to him as the first "conservative president" and for the Alien & Sedition Acts without putting them all in the complex context of the times. He refers to Benjamin Franklin Bache's unfortunate imprisonment without realizing Bache was a liar, a charlatan and a Rupert Murdoch for the day. And, please, Thom, note that Adams owned no slaves. Never did. Jefferson owned many and fucked some.

4. I disagree.

Thom gives the right wingers a mic with which they weekly choke themselves with
their own words.

He offers people a lesson in how to take on right wingers and win an argument
with them.

And after being questioned by Thom, tail between his legs Goldberg skidaddled on to another interview (presumably Fox Snooze or Hannity or Rush).

28. You must be talking about some other Thom Hartmann.
The Thom Hartmann I know has a breadth and depth of knowledge AND ability AND experience that makes him one of the most remarkable people on the air today. Or, anywhere today, for that matter.

And, on top of that, he's one of the most compassionate people I've ever sort of met AND I AND DUers owe him big time for his kindness in helping us get Andy's fundraiser off the ground.

55. Yep. Author of 19 books, four-time Project Censored winner, on and on
sounds to me like the OP is clueless...

The co-founder (with his wife, Louise) of The New England Salem Children’s Village (1978) and The Hunter School (1997), he has led national innovations in the areas of residential treatment for abused children and private/public education for learning-disabled children.

Hartmann is the four-time Project Censored Award-winning, New York Times best-selling author of nineteen books currently in print in over a dozen languages on five continents. He is the former executive director of a residential treatment program for emotionally disturbed and abused children, and has helped set up hospitals, famine relief programs, schools, and refugee centers in India, Uganda, Australia, Colombia, Russia, and the United States through the German-based Salem International program.

One of his books was selected for inclusion in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian for its “visionary use of information technology to produce positive social, economic, and educational change in medicine.” His book The Prophet’s Way led to an unsolicited invitation to a private audience with Pope John Paul II in 1998. His book The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight led to a September, 1999 unsolicited invitation to spend a week with His Holiness The Dalai Lama at his home in Dharamsala, India, and inspired a web-based movie ("Global Warning") written and produced by Leonardo DiCaprio.

He demonstrates how to debate these Right wing fools. How the hell would you know how to debate the right wingers without practice? His right winger interviews allow us to hear from the other side and how to debate and refute them.

Sam Seder does this to some degree also.

Its good to step outside of the bubble because the real world is not a bubble and we do have to encounter these right wing fools.

strength by creating dialogue. Sometimes I think he doesn't quite get where I'd like to see him go with the dialectic, but I absolutely respect and admire the courage, integrity, intelligence, and knowledge he spreads in doing it.
